Yup a purge to atmosphere BOV. (like my HKS was) will confuse the Mass Airflow Sensor.
There some kind of cheat you can buy, but I made my own recir. hose.

I had the same symptoms btw.

I just installed an aem intake I bought used this past weekend and I have had 0 issues. The car idles just as good as stock and I have been trying different things to see if it would stall and it doesnt.

that's exactly what happen except i was able to turn it and pulled over. thankfully the ramp opens up to 3 lanes so i had more than enough room.

and i don't think it's my AEM intake. it has to be my bov. like i said, when i installed it, the hose didn't feel snug at all. i'm also barely boosting at all so it has to be that.

You're one of the only ones that have had no issues. My guess is that you just haven't been in a situation for it to present itself yet. Aftermarket intakes are only needed and benificial when you're on standalone and using speed density to measure instead of the factory mass airflow sensor.

Example 2
Example 3

There's tons of examples out there. Usually about once a day there's someone who posts a new thread titled something like "Looking for an intake for my Evo. Any suggestions?"

Within 10 minutes it's filled with horror stories from people who put intakes on their car, it made them sound cool, but they either lost power or lost driveability. Usually it was a bit of both. These threads continue until a moderator sees them and deletes them for being an exact duplicate of the thread from yesterday, and the day before.

The stock air box is good. Leave those shiny metal pipes for the Hon-duh boys to play with.

Stop calling it a blow off valve if you're not venting to atmosphere. Well, you might be venting to atmosphere, but you're not meaning to.

Difference between a BOV and a CBV.

I didnt get it for the sound or because its "cool" I got it because it was cheap and I thought what the hell, im going to try it because I like to try things for myself even if people say no no no. Its been on for almost a week and I have yet to have a single issues. Maybe I will, maybe I wont....but I feel like it helped, the car feels more responsive to me and driveability is just as good as stock.

David buschur has made posts that an intake (open air filter) does make power over the stock box (maybe not all). I was going to get his cone filter to try but I got the whole aem intake for a lot less and wanted to give it a shot. He has had no issues with his filter kit on the evos and even use it on the BR330's and 350's so obviously it helps make power or he wouldnt be using one. I believe there is some poorly designed units out there but at this time I dont think aem is one of them.....but if i do have issues then I will know why.

Not on my Evo, but in my A4 with a BOV it will act just like that off of a freeway.
