We did this to our ring gear recently to lessen rotating mass (note: this ring gear is NOT in the Evo, but you get the idea)


Started as 12 lb, machined 4.5 lbs off of it.....quite a common practice for 9" ford rear ends

Smaller battery will definitly take a good 20+lbs more off your car i would say. Stock is what 30+? near 40. There is a battery out the is weighting only 11.5-12 lbs. so good crap. i forgot the name of the battery but i was watching a video and damn that is small as hell.

Is it a factor of x8 or x4 for rotating mass compared to regular weight?

Get some Rays Engineering lug nuts and locks too. These will reduce weight by about 1 pound per wheel.
