Post Methods of Reducing Rotating Mass Weight

Hey all...

Im working on getting the RS light for more power and speed. I have a list of what I am going to do to reduce the overall weight. I want to get the car faster on both the stripe AND DYNO. I know to put down more whp, one must reducing their ROTATING MASS weight. I made a list below.

1. Lighter Wheels / Tires / Lug Nuts
2. Carbon Fiber Driveshaft
3. Lighter Flywheel / Clutch
4. Lighter / Smaller Brakes
5. Inflate Tires
6. Lighter Suspension
7. Lighter Internals

What else can one do to reduce their rotating mass?

Are there any other methods to get faster and put down more power besides overall and rotating weight reduction?

Thanks!

Lighter tires and lighter suspension comes to mind.

Light weight flywheel.

Reducing rotating weight isn't the only way to make more power. There is always more displacement and/or a bigger turbo.

There is a lot of weight you can take out of the rotational mass of a 4G63 crank/rods/pistons

Being a miser I'm more concerned with hp/$$ quotient. It's much easier and cheaper to add hp than reduce weight if you want to keep the interior.

Pulleys, tires, rotors, rims, better shyntetic various oils, proper inflation of tires would help even though is more like a friction issue than rotational weight but it is always underlook..

1. Lighter Wheels
2. Carbon Fiber Driveshaft
3. Lighter Flywheel / Clutch
4. Lighter / Smaller Brakes
5. Inflate Tires

Lighter weight tires are the most important, the least expensive, and easier to change out than any item on your list.
Remember with tires:
A. Whatever weight you save is X4.
B. Tire weight is at the largest radius point of all the items.

Wheels and tires are liken unto 4 large flywheels that have to be spun up every time you accelerate. And, slowed down every time you brake.

I'm always amazed at car owners who would never add 4 additional heavy flywheels to their prized 'enthusiast' car, but will add a set of heavy tires on even heaver wheels.

I thought for wheels and tires its a factor of X8 right?

Without a doubt unsprung weight and rotational mass are the most important areas to loose weight.

You don't really need to get smaller brakes but the 2 piece Giro disc and Performance Friction rotors are like 2-3 pounds lighter than stock. I'd say those and a set of MR BBS wheels (2.8lbs lighter than the standard RS & IX wheels!) would knock off a good bit of weight right there.
