Mod parking brake to save gas?
Some of you may not know that if you pull the parking brake, the car disengages the acd making the car fwd. Would installing a switch parallel in parking brake assy effectivley make it a awd/fwd switch? Does anyone forsee any harm to the system if run in this condition over a period of time? Will the ABS still work?
I just filled up at $3.40 a gallon, and thought of this while just cruising on the highway burnin $$. Some of you may start to flame me for buying a performance car and complaining of gas prices, but 90% of the time it's used for commuting
. I'd rather use the money on mods, than to make the sheikhs and Halliburton richer.

Pulling the parking brake doesn't make the car FWD, it unlocks the center differential, big difference.
There is still what amounts to an open differential connecting the rear wheels, so you're still getting a 50/50 torque split F/R. The only difference is with the center diff unlocked, you can lock the rear wheels and not burn up the ACD clutch pack. Handy for handbrake turns.

If you didn't know, the rear parking brake is a mechanical drum brake that operates on the interior of the rear rotor hat. It's pretty wimpy, and if you pull the ebrake while still moving, about all you'll do is burn up those drum brake linings.

which that manual includes a section that tells you at what speeds to shift at for optimal fuel mileage....why not try that instead of trying to come up with some crazy idea that most likely will not work for what you want to do or what your expecting....
i think he was talking about having another switch to make the computer think that the ebrake was up, yet still not the best idea. But hey those vortex air filter thing a gigis are suppost to give you +10mpg.
