How is this a common problem?
I know a lot of people with Evos and working at a shop tons of them have come by. None of them have dipsticks just shooting off.
I was being serious when I asked if you plugged it in all the way. Has the only time it happened after you changed your oil?
Evos don't normally blow by. It's not a Subie.

The dipstick popping out is indicative of a very serious engine problem. Locking it into place to keep it down is like putting on head phones so you can't hear your rod knock.

Get that, and consider it fix... or use a zip tie if you like.....

yeah, its blow by. cylinder rings are usually the cause. do a compression test, and if it doesnt look good, do a leak down to narrow down the problem.
p.s. make sure you at lest patch the problem asap with a dip stick tie down, or else you risk an engine fire from oil on your exhaust mani.

Before you jump to conclusions....fix the simplest first.
Try changing the two o-rings on the dip stick. I have replace a few on friends cars..
New o-rings made it fit tight again.

Check your PCV system. Is it vented to atmosphere, or is it still recirculating (i.e. stock)?
I never ran into this issue on my stock setup (and that was even _with_ blow-by), but I do run into it with the AMS VSR intake on my car when I road race it, so I use a zip tie these days...

on changing your pcv valve. extremepsi.com has them. and the buschur spring to avoid another mess. Hopfully the pcv is the problem, if not, its not a good sign of a rock soild motor.

time for a catch can or for another valve cover vent. you are having exxicive blow by. i would just add some huge valve cover vents to solve the problem. works good for my teg
The other thing that it might be is that you have too much crank pressure, AKA, your not running a catch can, and in the process of doing so the air has nowhere to go so it reliefs itself through the Dip stick....
Either way i dont think that you have a serious problem on your hands. You can run a compression test. and a leakdown test but i dont think that you have anything to worry about.
