Mallet to DP

Ok my DP is rubing on the T/C, just like alot of other people's dp are. Before i pull my DP and take a mallet to it, i was wondering what effects did you guys get out of just trying to pound it on that spot on the DP. Did it just dent that section of the DP in, did it flex the entire dp downward toward the tie bars.

Just wanted to get some info from some of you guys that have already done it, what exactly did you do, and what was the outcome.

I tried hammering some dimples into mine, and it just causes other places to rub. It's like a never ending battle.

Everytime I take it off, I do a little more. It doesn't quite look like new anymore though.

i got the XS engineering one, and i figure if i can hammer it downward all i would have to do is throw some spacers on to the tiebars thats no big deal at all.

So when you actually hammered it, it dented it to the point where it stopped hitting the transfercase?

The XS engineering 3" downpipe is suppose to clear all evos. Including evo ix.

Here are pix of it on a evo9.

use a ball-peen hammer if you want to shape the metal away from the tcase or in any specific location

mine is sitting just slightly closer, but the weird thing is when i first put it on it didnt hit, 3 months later i can hear it clunking against the case. I wonder if the rubber hangers just streched out and gave it enough play to hit, when i go down there and wiggle or hit the dp with my hand it seems stiff as a rock so i dont know. I will take it off and beat the crap out of it

wouldnt the ball-peen just dent a small section of it, and not really flex a general area away?

Why don't you just buy a downpipe that fits?

The XS Engineering 3" downpipe fits all evos. As seen in the picture I posted above.

coolguy, did u install this on a jack? I think if u could possibly re-install it on a rack or lift. It should line up just right.

well yeah i installed it on Jacks, but that shouldnt make a difference it still goes up the same way, it didnt start clunking against the t/c until 3 months after i installed it, so im thinking the rubber exhaust hangers just got worn to the point to give it enough play. I am going to try to take it off and see what i can do tomorrow.

it would
but your not gonna be able to flex a down pipe with any hammer. meaning you not going to be able to keep the same inside diameter
