Other cars (non evo) I've worked on with a similar problem turn out to be shift linkages out of adjustment. They'll shift into 135 or 24R depending on how they're out.

Then again, you mentioned it wouldn't engage the entire bottom row or 5th so then the possibility of clutch does come up. I guess we'll see soon enough.

This happened to me. Dealership wanted 1k+ $ to replace my clutch. I told em to fk off and tow it back to my house. I took out my battery tray. Took off the hydraulic line underneath there. Ended up being a crack in the line under the sleeve where it threads on. Bought a straight line and bent it up to fit. Screwed it on. Ta-da! 2 bucks. I would check that out.

Sounds like a lemon to me. I would not take no for an answer in regards to fixing the problem, how long have you had the car?

I was a dealership mechanic for8 years (Dodge and Volkswagen). I would tell you not to worry but its an Evo! A buddy of mine is a mitsu tech at a local dealer and he said Mitsu has a clause in the Evos warranty where they will not cover a clutch ever. But some guys on here are saying they have had thiers covered. I think it all depends on the service rep that comes out to approve or deny your warranty claim.... Good Luck!

It was in Ohio where she died on me. So we flat bedded it to a dealership here in PA. Bairel Mitsubishi. They have a mechanice, Mike, who only works on EVOs...he gets them from all over the place. He himself has a modded evo and he says basically nothing voids the warranty, he seems super cool. He is gonna call us today, it didn't get there til' late yesterday.

I will keep you guys posted!!!

PRAY!

Personally I think that if it were any of the simple problems then there wouldn't be a sound at all. Bushings being out don't make any sound at all you just lose a row of gears. If it sounded like something rattling around in the casing then worse case scenario is a shift fork, or less of a pain in the **** a flywheel bolt has vibrated lose and lodged itself between the flywheel and sprung hub on your clutch plate. If it is the latter then all that is needed is removal of tranny, clutch, retorque all seven flywheel bolts, realign clutch, and reassemble. May take about 3-4 hours. Speaking from experience here. But good luck with whatever it is.

Is your car completely stock? That looks like a bigger FMIC there. If not, let us know what the dealer says. Good luck man!!

From your description it doesn't sound like a clutch problem. but whatever it turns out to be it SHOULD 100% be covered under warranty if you car is completly stock and there is no signs of abuse. If they try and tell you anything different DON'T roll over and take it, fight them.

There isnt a "clause" for the evo clutch. They have the EXACT same warranty for clutches for ALL of their vehicles. 12/12 of a manufacture's failure, not for being burnt/slipping/chattering etc. If the throw out bearing clip breaks (which I have seen on a new evo w/6k) then it would posibly be covered. If he has any performance mods on the car and it is burnt, give it up they wouldnt and shouldnt cover it.
