I can see this being a normal question. Cars with aftermarket shift knobs can have reverse in many places. My buddies bmw has it to the left of 1st gear, some 6spd trannies have lockout rings you have to raise to get into reverse. others you have to push hard against the side for it to popinto the reverse slot.

 

^i know there are many different reverses, but i specifically told the tech guy its a regular evo 5spd, NOT an MR (my car looks like an MR from exterior)...and majority of the time, the reverse is where a 6th gear would usually be on majority of cars
