Lifter?

ok, well we where just talking about this on the boards about oil thickness. 5-30 or 10 30w blah blah. well i changed my oil yesterday and had to use 5-30w was all i had in the shop i work at to use. well today i noticed more lifeter tapping even warmed up. so my question is dead lifter or just noisey what you guys think?

also how hard is it to change them? my car has bout 15k on it and its a early 03 evo.

thx

They are just being noisy i'm sure. The only times you need to be concerned is at high mileage or after you swapped cams. Changing lifters aren't difficult if you know what your doing. If you have any doubts whatsoever about doing it yourself, then don't do it. It's very easy to screw things up.

i think so to the thiner oil, but it use to go away after warm up. i think ill pick up some of the mystery oil from pep boys to help quiet them down.. my lifters have been noisey since 3k miles on my car but always went away warm. oh well

10w-30 all season, but i will try to go with 10w-40 ^^^ will fix the problem. Always go with Mobil 1 fully synth.

My old 2g DSM had bad lifter tick when I used valvoline synthetic. I switched over to Mobil 1 and the ticking went away. Both oils were the same weight.

I'd try giving it another oil change if it really bothers you, otherwise, you're probably fine.

have tried 5-10-20w/50 oil in mine, i always get lifter noise, even at prolonged idle upon the first start up, but as soon as it revs over 3k or so, it should quite em..

on my old 2G DSM I used CD2 valve detergent. dumped two bottles in and the ticking went away.. at least for a few thousand miles.

then again, just about every car I've used this stuff on, the ticking has gone away, albeit temporariliy (all my S-chassis cars and several Zs)
