Evo to S2000: Opinions?
S2k's are probably quite a bit of fun going through tons of curves etc. as it is so agile but in terms of pure speed, the S2k is SLOW. A 9 PSI supercharged S2k with full exhaust, tune, etc. with drag tires on the back lost to a mazda speed 6 with a CAI in 1/8th of a mile repeatedly. The S2k didn't have ANY power until almost at the end... and at that point I will give it this, it took off but too little too late.
Summary- If racing from a roll on the interstate S2k would be amazing if it had some mods done to it. If an S2k tried to race anything from a dig, prepare to be donkey f*cked. In corners S2k would rock but might struggle with traction.

If you modded a s2k with 20k of stuff and a evo with 20k of stuff, I'd have to give it to the s2k. Since i have been in both cars built with over 600 whp, the s2k always killed the evo and the feeling that your chest was caving in went to the s2k. i love both but the evo has 4 doors and i'm 6'4 so no s2k for me

my brother has an s2000 and i was deciding between an s2000 and evo... for everyday driving the evo is way better.. for going fast the evo is better.. and for comfort the evo is way better... and everytime i drive the s2000 it feels like the car is just trying too hard... but it's a car the chicks like, and looks better than an evo. aesthetics i give it to the s2000, performance the evo of course. but the s2000 is also more of a driver's car and being able to lap times similar to an evo with a naturally aspirated engine is definitely impressive. oh yea.. evo's hold thier value better than s2000's do. my brother bought his for $13k..
but then again. i've never even driven a evo. so take it for what it's worth. i still need to get my grubby little hands on a evo.
but the s2000. will always have a place in my heart as well. as someone mentioned above. it excels in other parts that the evo doesn't. such as looks.
I felt the need to chime in since I own an Evo and am one of the leading sales reps in volume for S2000 sales in the country. The S2000 is an amazing vehicle. Rated the most reliable sports car EVER made. They I wish the tranny and gear box in our Evos were half as good as the Honda. True it does lack the low end power, but this is a car that has to be driven as if you hated it! It is the only pure sports car that I can think of. No frills or luxury here. Just pure driver in tune with the road. Can't wait untill the new CR series S2K comes out this fall. I have been waiting for a revamp for 2 years and finally Honda is listening. Anyone looking for a dedicated track car... stay tuned.
I own both....
With both of these around, I can give you some unbiased input. I take the S2000 is I need to go on a highway jaunt and want to conserve fuel (although the wind noise can make you nuts after awhile), go to an Autocross, or want to drive with the top down. The Evo IX gets daily driving use at all other times. It feels better, is more fun to drive, and has far more power. The S2000 is the more predictable car and MUCH easier to drive. The chassis is very well balanced and the gearbox is a dream. Basically, these cars are very much the opposite of each other and both excellent in their own way.
Get behind the wheel of one and make the decision the best suits you.

i test drove the 2002 s2k first and then the evo9 all i can say is S2K<EVO. like what other people had said 6500 when VteK kicks in, ride is way too harsh stock, not fun to drive if ur trying to save gas, small cabin. STOCK vs STOCK evo wins it in every aspect hands down. test drive one and see for urself and let us know what u think

You will hate life !!!! One of my customers got rid of his evo for a new S2000 and he had it for a whole 2 months before he traded that in for an STI !!!!! I think thats a plan that may look better on paper but really sucks when its actually done !
This topic is the opposite for me. I had an S2000, and switched to the Evo. The earlier post of saying they are two different cars is correct. Both cars handle exceptionally well, but it all depends on what you want out of your car.
I loved my S2000, I got looks every where I went with it. I only get looks in the Evo now due to my test pipe.
The S2000 IIRC, has a forged bottom end. People are slapping bigger head gaskets one em and making stoopid power. Some pics of my baby, damn I miss her.
EDIT: Nothing EVAR broke on my S2K, I used to beat the **** out of it too. I'm almost scared to drive me Evo hard.

Love the s2k engine especially on the track...a lot more progressive and can feather better through corner. For the street, prefer Evo because of more usable mid-range punch. Handling, I think the Evo has a better feel and definitely quicker to react.
Went from an Evo to an S2000 (still have currently).
The S2000 is a lot of fun. The transmission -- especially the shifter -- is the best I have experienced. Its really hard to beat when the weather is nice, the top is down, and you are flying through some twisties to the sound of the engine screaming from 7-9k RPMs. Listening to the engine over 8k is quite a visceral experience (and a tad scary initially I might add).
The downside of course is that when the weather isn't ideal, this car beats on you. With the top up its loud in the cabin, the stereo sucks (and there isn't really enough room to put a good one in), you have horrible rear visibility and all kinds of blind spots, and driving in rain or snow can be quite the adventure.
Going from an S2000 back to an EVO feels like going from a car to an SUV in a lot of ways. The S2000 is so much lower to the ground - you have to basically slide in the seat compared to the EVO which feels like your typical sedan but with nice side bolsters. Even in stock form, the S2000 has very minimal body roll, you can pull some extremely satisfying lateral G's with little effort, and the weight of the car make it oh so tossable relatively speaking.
Of course, the Evo has torque, low end power, and is much easier to drive fast in town. If you want to get the S2000 going, you have to get it past 7k RPMs and at that point you are in serious ticket territory. EVO's powerband is much easier to drive fast up to the speed limit and feel satisfied.
Overall, they are both great cars and I would recommend either.

If you live in Nevada I would get the 2000. I'm assuming you're close to the mts in california which would be great for the 2000. I've had one and test dove several others. On a twisty mtn road (with no cops) you can't beat the top down and the revs up. Unfortunatly, it also snows here. So, out with the 2000 and in with the evo.
Also, I can see you get a lot of ideas thrown at you, but if you really enjoy working on cars you might consider buying an old european roadster. My dad and I restored his MG. 78 hp, but the thing is lighter than a Lotus. They are a lot of fun, plus you may keep the evo as a dd, and have the convert as a 'fun car'. Just a suggestion.
