I'm waiting for the X to come out to see how it is, anyone know how good the new Lancer crashes?
the new lancer performed very well except for the rear door latch that is why there is a recall of replacing the latch. The evo is a race/rally car that mitsu is trying to sell in the US for driving enthusiasts who loves its performance. It wasn't meant to be a family car=roll cage is needed. That is why there is the evo X to cater for the masses. btw did they test the miata? it is the same thing.

well, that's true. I just checked the nhtsa ratings, good news! the rear passenger rating is 4 stars for the side impact and 2 stars for the front passenger on the 2004 evo. maybe it changed since then. but 4 stars is very good

You must not have read any of this, FMIC would not have any impact on side impact ratings. Front crash test ratings are 5 stars.

I had a deposit put down on an 06 MR SE that I just forfeited after reading more things about poor front passengar crash test ratings, plus no side airbags. I will wait and see how the X performs and if it has better safety and if not maybe go with an STi. I was planning on getting th Evo because I have a wife and a son and a 350Z that no longer is driven (except once a twice a year,it's not myd aily driver). I just got a bad bad feeling about driving my son around in the Evo after reading posts, and lack of cruise control would make it more difficult for me to drive the car within legal speed limits .

That's why they're called accidents, no one ever plans an accident.

I'm 27 and if i had a family I think it may concern me more. Truth is I got the car for performance and am surprised that the front crash and rear passanger crash tests faired as well as they did. I never once thought the Evo was a family car with sports car performance. If that was the case insurance would be a heck of alot cheaper than it is. There is a REASON 3/5 insurance places I called here in Puerto Rico didn't even cover the Evo. I knew what I was getting into and I thank my lucky stars all has gone well with the car.

Remember the evo was introduced to market because even though Rally cars are purpose built, the rules stated the companies have to use a model that is in production. Adding 4 doors doesn't make it a "family car". Those of you that have families and looked up the crash ratings I applaud you since many folks don't show that much thought (says something about evo owners eh?). Hopefully safetey ratings will improve as all cars coming out after 2007 I believe are required to have passanger airbags including the Evo X if i'm not mistaken.

u guys know that crash test rating lately went up. Almost all cars now comes with side airbags, air curtains, etc. No wonder they rate evo 2/5 star.

Also people really care about crash rating when buying "sports" car?
I'd care if its minivan, suv, or family seden. But not on sports cars.

they don't test the EVO anyway. they test the regular lancer and use that for every model. The EVO is a lot safer than the regular lancer, but the tests don't show it.

Yeah every year a bar is set that crash ratings test from because car manuf. are always coming out with a new level of std. safety equipment and cars that arent up to that level of safety have poor ratings. Look at half the older cars on the road that dont have side impact airbags (cavy's, grand ams, neons, etc)....put them up against the new crash ratings and they would be 0/5. Before the evo i drove a crx for like 5 years while in college and I would rather be in my evo than in that car in a side impact collision....and i feel a lot safer!

Crash test ratings are a bunch of crap if you ask me.....any mid size car i dont care what side curtain airbags you have gets hit by a truck, or bigger in the side you are f***ed with a capital F!

The evo is probably safer than any other sports car on the street....because you rarely see a sports car get tested anyway.

^^^Sign me up for a car made in China! I used to hate their pencils when I was still in school. You'd start off with a new one and by the time you were done trying to sharpen it for the first time, you had to throw it away because the lead would keep breaking.

Oh he's fine nothing but a scratch, just as long as there isn't any lead based paint.
