evopirate, I totally agree with you on the huge SUV thing. Nothing disgusts me more when I drive than to see someone driving a Ford Excursion. I just don't understand the idea behind that thing. It's HUGE and I bet it loves to drink gas and plenty of it too. I cringe everytime I see one and shake my head at the driver who may be more concerned about them and theirs and no one else- scumbags.
But on a side note, can you honestly tell me that if you were in this crash:

)
you wouldn't mind having a rollcage for added safety instead of saving weight and possibly going 1/10th of a second faster without one? I'm sure that having made the front doors more impact friendly would not add a second to your going fast. But to each his own.

Speaking of SUV's. I hope the US adopts a similar high tax penalty on them like the UK just put into place. I know it will burden those that need/actually use them for there intended purpose but maybe we will see less of them driving around with only one person in it. But, I am sure the rising gas prices will soon put an end to many of the super-sized SUV's.
My wife wants a SUV because she doesn't want the whole soccer mom mini-van look. I asked her what can a SUV do (for how she will be using it) that a nice Legacy wagon etc cant do. That shut her up really quick. At the end of the day, she will still probably get a Honda Pilot or something similar. *sigh*
