While at the shop today getting a state inspection sticker the following conversation took place:

Shop Tech: Are those aftermarket tail lights?
Me: They're from Japan but they're Mitsubishi parts.

He was questioning my Evo 7 tail lights?!?! WTF!

 

That's strange. As long as there dot approved I can't see how he can say anything. Did he pass the car?

 

So everybody is supposed to know about JDM tails?

 

Are JDM tailights DOT approved? I would have to guess not as the Department of transportation is not an international orginization.

He passed the car. It's just strange that he'd question tail lights that look more normal than the stockers.

 

With the exception of missing reverse lights. And perhaps he's inspected an Evo or two before yours.

 

i got the same thing from the service manager at a dealer here. i said "they're from the evolution 7" and he looked at me like a had 3 heads.

 

I understand it's not an international organization, but for aftermarket lights to be technically legal in the US they have to have the dot symbol stamped on the product somewhere.

 

Didn't some company get in trouble a few years ago for claiming that their aftermarket lights were DOT when in fact they were not.I think it was APC.The tech could of been afraid of getting in trouble for passing your inspection due to the fact that he thought your lights were some after market lights.

 

in cali, along with the gheyass enhanced smog, theres also a brake and lamp inspection, (or something like that), on some vehicles. maybe theres something like that over there or he knows someone with the evo altezzas. LOL

 

I seriously doubt that 7 tails are DOT approved, because their not USDM cars.
