Considering buying a new evo
um....no. i like the evo because it's a performance car and can handle anything i would want to do. i'm not interested in finding the limits of that car. i don't want to powerslide around turns ne where that'd scare the **** out of me. its almost like old people in their corvettes. they drive them slow. not saying i wouldn't speed around a little on the highway or something. of course i would. and if i wanted "fashion" i would get something like a BMW or a lexus IS 350
Ambysty is right on a few things. I kind of agree with him on the dad thing, my dad was not around when I bought my car but the day he got back and took it for a ride, I caught alllll sorts of hell for it.
No one buys an evo to daily drive, look at my sig, this was my daily driver... 500 whp daily driver. Do you think I drove my car easy??
The first time you hit boost and your head hits the seat it's an overwhelming feeling. Once you get used to it you will start to push it further. You will we have all seen it here hundreds of times.
Buy what makes you happy man, but you should actually be semi thankful for starting a thread like this and people just laying it out there for ya. No one wants to hear anyone die in a car crash and evo's and sti's are all to familiar with being involved.
There was a accident about a year ago in my are whos parents bought there two kids an sti and an evo, No joke.....
on the way home from the dealership they were Racing down the highway and in a slight turn the sti lost control and hit the evo both flipped and died instantly...
No saying this is what you are all about as we know nothing about you. but driving this car is not an easy task. takes a HUGE amounts of responsibilty and money to own this car.
I had a lot of fun cars that were stick, 86 supercharged mustang Gt, mazdaspeed miata, the list goes on n on.
In a way we all don't care what you buy and if your parents buy one for you then good for you, welcome to the family. but as what most people are saying to you, just keep a level head about it.
Are you trying to kid us on one thing though, you said that you would not race it....
I can guarentee you the second a mustang owner or camaro owner saw you on a highway that you would do some pulls with it, which is okay but don't try to kid yourself on it. We all pushed our cars to see how fast it would go or how fast you can take turns in it.
Its just a respect thing and the second you think you can handle this car it will throw you for a loop.

i agree with ambysty and lancerevo8...
as much as you tell yourself youre not gonna race it, like ambysty said about the first time you hit boost, youre gonna keep wanting to push the car further and further and i doubt youd pass up the chance to race once you run into a mustang or camaro...
and the fact that your parents are paying for it...yea you will baby it for the first few weeks bc its "your" brand new car, but after the newness wears off youll start pushing it harder and harder. now theres nothing wrong with pushing these cars to their limits, but i think the only way someone can truely appreciate a car is if they pay for it themselves and are actually getting a feel for how much these cars actually cost to maintain and drive.
It's ambystom01 guys, amby for short. You answered the question just as I thought you would, you want a performance car that you can make faster, grippier, etc. As others have said, you don't drive a performance car like you would an econo box, you drive it like it was meant to be driven. These cars (evo/wrx/sti/etc.) are not cheap, I go through 70$ in gas a week and that's driving conservatively and on the highway. It seems like you have good parents in the sense that they want to make you happy but unfortunately parenting isn't just about making your kid happy, it's about doing what's best for them even if they hate you for it. My parents did a lot of things that I hated at the time but now I know why they did what they did. I'm guessing you're an only child?
It must be nice to have parents who pay for a car that cost 30k+ and has insurance rate of 179 or more a month. **** if I had both those bills out of my way I would have the fastest evo in OHIO!

are you serious, sorry man but you dont have and evo and at least drive it how it is meant to be driven. but that mean RESPONSIBLY. hell man you've allready gotten so much crap on this forum but what it boils down to, is get what you want. be safe about it. I have no problem with a 19 year old driving an evo (Im 19
) but just dont be dumb and follow what alot of stupid 19 year olds do and go and ruin my reputation. It is gay that your dad is buying your car for you tho. trust me when I tell you, when you get kick out of the house, have an evo, rent, bills to live, its tough to have enough money to not starve man. and your dad buying you a car is not going to help you at all enter the real world, because all the sudden you'll get there and say ****. I've regreted buying my evo so many times all ready, but I cant seem to bare to sell it, altho in the back of my mind, I almost know I should. 2003lancerevo8 said it right tho, they say it cause they dont want to see people get hurt.-take it from someone whos there, im 19, full time student, barely have enough money to live. dont have enough time to sleep. and me and my evo are in a love/hate relationship. I love her on the weeks I can afford to eat, I hate her on the others. but hell, if your dad's buying you car you may not have that same problem I guess.
"with great power comes great responsibility" -Uncle Ben.
He's not buying it, his parents are. I'm sure he could afford it (god knows if his parents are willing to spend 30000$ on a car for him they won't let him starve or live a less than luxurious life) but that's not the point. Getting a car is fine, my lancer was a gift but there is something about buying the car you want for yourself that is so much better.
You got it all wrong, he should get an STi so if he crashes it, you and I can part out the car between us. You can have the STi long block, I'll take the tranny, you can have the interior, I'll take the brakes, etc..
