Reliability of an Evo
Hey guys, I am a new member and searched the forums to find more info about the reliability and common problems but could not find a thread. So I welcome all those veteran Evo owners to enlighten me on the common problems and reliability of the vehicle. I am thinking about purchasing an Evo X when they come out as I had originally had my eye on a new STI, but am disgusted with the new "styling", if you can even call it that.
I think like most new cars if you take care of it and don't beat the ever loving snot out of it day in and day out it will be fine.
Well, in respect to generation to generation, is there anything that they have problems with? Tranny's always have problems after a certain period, somethings not put together very nice, or something that you immediately buy to replace. Anything like that? Any common problems through the generations?

Just the tranny and tcase, but the new Evo, yet again, will be using a completely different trans. Overall though the Evo's are reliable if you take care of them. I know someone with over 100k on his and hes had no problems.
I have 60k on mine ! My VIII is a DD that I don't beat the snot out of . Regular maintenance and respect will go a LONG ways to keeping a happy car . That being said , once I own it ( not the bank ) and I get another DD , the car will become a week-end / track car that will be properly thrashed . I don't expect or care if there are problems , you get from it what you give it .
My '03 with 99k, some auto-x, drag racing, turbo back exhaust, injectors, cams, 22psi, almost always in boost, take it to 7k almost everyday, plus loads of highway and daily driving. Still runs great.

Yeah, generally the clutch as with most AWD cars is the weak link if you plan on launching it. Once you replace that with something stronger you start moving down the line of things to break. trans, TC, etc..
I had 55K on my 03 with 400crank HP and no issues with the stock clutch, trans, and TC.
