Freakish Gas Mileage

I took a trip this past summer which was about 150 miles each way. It was to the middle of nowhere and traffic as a whole was moving at a good clip. I drove about 10-15mph faster on average than what i normally would which means I was going on average 90 mph with a few jaunts of getting on it and going into triple digits. So... I thought my gas mileage was going to be awful. I ended up getting 352 miles out of that tank and filled up with a little under 14 gallons I've taken several other mostly highway trips while maintaining about 80mph the whole way and have never even topped 300 miles on a tank before. Maybe it's my tune and the car runs leaner at the higher RPMs, but I don't totally buy that as an explanation. Any other ideas as to why this happened, and has anyone else ever experienced this before?

P.S. Pretty basic mods on the car, AMS tune, turboback, lightened flywheel, and a few other things that aren't power adders.

It's a 14 gallon tank IIRC, and now that I think of it I filled up with about 13.5 gallons.

well thats crap lol, if we have a 14 gallon tank then im only getting 15.7 mpg that sucks, if it was a 12 gallon tank I averaged it at 18.333 so that was still in decent range. YIKES

Ofcourse this is all city, i havent been driving any highway because of the slight oil leak i have.

220 per tank, i agree on the 14 gal tank. 220/13.2=16.6 mpg. mostly city driving. "last fill up"

I've been getting ~17 with 95% city driving. Nice to hear I'm not the only one.

Every time I get gas, I get about 12.5-13 gallons. I get anywhere from 230-250miles per tank. once as high as 267miles. MOSTLY city/spirited mountain driving, but there is highway mixed in.

jeebus,
I was proud of myself yesterday when I hit nearly 255 miles on my tank, filled up about 11 gallons. . .when the light is on, I usually end up filling 12 gallons. . .I've never seen 14 gallons on my Evo, I wonder if they changed capacities or just messed around with different tanks on different build dates. . .

I once got 28 mpg on a round trip from Tucson to Phoenix. All interstate driving between 75 and 85 mph. I had to the math three times becuase I thought my calculator was broken.

Damn, you guys are getting terrible milage! I've never had any worse than 20.5 and I'm almost always 21.5mpg-23mpg. Its scarily consistant whether I'm in traffic, around town, or flying 100+ all the way to MOD.

My fully built 35R 2g gets 27mpg and I definitely don't go easy on it. THATS freakish.

Don't forget the pump will continue to fill into the filler neck...maybe a good half gallon?
