Loud Clunk Noise

When I speed shift from 1st to 2nd there is a loud clunk noise from the rear. I don't do this very often, but I feel the need every now & then. I have an 06 EVO IX with about 13K miles. It has Injen intake & intercooler piping, Agency Power upper & lower motor mounts, & an engine damper. everything else is stock for the moment. Any ideas on what could be going on?

Thanx, Andy

I use to get that noise when I would drop the clutch really fast between shifts, but now that I take my time with it, although still quick, I don't get that noise as much . Your letting out the clutch too fast in between shifts.

Just to be safe, check your motor mount bolts. If you've installed aftermarket motor mounts then there's a possibility one or more bolts have gotten loose (improperly torqued or just backed out after a lot of vibration) and this can be a cause of racket, especially at low RPM's.

My front mount had a bolt that had loosened up and at low RPM's I was getting a thudding vibration that could be felt through the clutch/floorboard and it gave the impression that it was something rotating (something in the drivetrain like the ACD or the clutch, etc.). Turned out it was just the loose bolt on the front motor mount. Tightening it back up got rid of it entirely. It was somehow transmitting the vibration at lower RPM's and making a dull thudding noise. Took me a long time to figure out what it was because it wasn't consistently there...

If the sound is coming from the rear of your car then this probably isn't what your problem is, but I thought I'd throw it out there since you mentioned you have aftermarket mounts...

I now have the same problem since I installed the 3076R. I was wondering if anybody has used the Energy Suspension or the WhiteLine that AMS sells. I really don't want solid ones just mainly because of the vibration it will cause?

Thanks fo all the info. I just installed the motor mounts last night & it also did it before they were in, so It is most likely the diff mount issue. I can still shift relativly quick & not have any problem, but I think I'll get the diff mount for those occasions where I want to slam it.

Thanx, Andy

It happened to me too during quick shifts. It scared the hell outta me. Did some searching on the forum and found out it's normal. When I got my tranny repaired by mitsu, they must have tightened something up because now it's gone.

Has anyone had experience with the AMS moustache bar eliminator or the Whiteline diff bushings? Any positives or negatives for either? Can the bushings be installed by the do it yourselfer or do they have to be presssed in? I don't mind the added vibration if it is not excessive.

Would like to know this as well. Was just looking at that mustache bar eliminator online this morning. Says it saves you 13 lbs, which is cool...
