I thought the New York Times was about quality journalism. Instead, this guy puts a sensationalist edge on this story, which was supposed to just be a coverage of the relationship between an owner and his/her car. I didn't know the New York Times was so hard up for help in their Automotive department. The way this article was written and twisted, it definitely sounded more 'Super Street' to me than 'New York Times' material.

...beat him by seven or eight lengths. Then one day, he just started winning. I found out it was because of the exhaust cut-out.

Um a test pipe doesn't yield THAT much more power over a standard or even hi flo cat last time I checked.

Unless I'm missing something here I think that particular comment was pretty funny.

I was in the twin cities news cast about street racing. Ironically they interviewed me at a track and I don't live any where near the cities. The reporter also never told me that it was about street racing. So my conversation was totally out of context. Definitely have to watch out for reporters.

Again... not everything i said is in the article. Obviously the part about the TUNE with the cutout was forgotten. But anyway, the QTP cutout is excellent, if you havent been in a car with one, you should. It's night and day up top.

Thank You. Hopefully these haters on here can grasp the concept that it's a writer's job to make things sound more exciting than they really are.

Yeah, I'm disappointed still at this NY Times reporter, nothing against him personally.....but with his experience of working with various import car magazines for the past few years I would expect him to know better than to share "too much info" with the public, but I guess the article would be boring afterall and put people to sleep if he did withhold the extra info.....
In journalism, a writer should strive to report things in a truthfull manner, but gee do we always have to exaggerate certain facts?

or on the other hand he could have shared that info, but at least allow the identity of the EVO owner to remain anonymous, in addition to blacking out his license plates in the photos/slideshow.......

But the good thing from this article is that the "educated and upperclass" peeps that supposedly read the NY Times will think twice about the beating and humiliation they're going to get the next time they decide to rev on Thedriver11421 from their BMWs

Yes its there job but in retrospect, it gets people to believe things that arent true.... Like cops and politicians....

Unfortunately it can make us look bad, but its something we would have to deal with on a daily basis. The crap we get from cops is something we signed for when we got the car. Its an attention getter.

Oh, but I completely disagree with you on the 7-8 carlengths crap. Even with a tune there is no way you can pull back 7-8 carlengths, hell even 2-3 carlengths.

True, but IMHO, knowing that the EVO already is an *attention getter* kinda car,

and knowing the reputation we get from the knuckleheads that make us look bad, I've decided a long time ago not to drive like a knucklehead on the streets....

and save all the WOT driving for a closed 1/4 mile track.....

not to say I'm innocent, occasionally I'll open it up on the highway if the coast is clear....

eh.. there's more to it, but the article woulda had to been a lot longer, and i'm sure he cut it out for that reason.
