EVO 8 vs. M3

Hypothetically speaking....I know the M3 comes stock with 333 horses under the hood. It's also RWD and weighs approximately 3,500 pounds. The EVO's got 270ish horses, AWD and weighs over 4,000 pounds.

That's the tale of the tape......what happens in a straight line?? We all know the EVO would destroy the M3 otherwise........

I've heard of E46 M3s running as fast as 12.8s bone stock. They're not as slow as their E36 predecesors.

E46 running 12's stock? Don't think so, everyone I have seen run at the track is low 13's but not close to 12's. I run my buddies 2002 M3 and I always walk him.

There's no way a stock E46 M3 run high 12's, no way in hell, and the tunability of the car is very limited.

So the final thoughts would be that an EVO 8 *could* probably run with an M3....stock to stock??

v

I think the 4000lb you are talking about is the maximum passenger capacity of the vehicle.

Hanzo's got it right....The EVO's gross weight is 4400 LBS (appx).

That number reflects the maximum recommended weight the car should not exceed when fully laden with occupants and luggage. Gross weight = curb weight + people + all the crap they are bringing with them

Curb weight is how much the car weighs sitting at the curb, ready to go for a drive.....ie curb weight = car+ the weight of all liquids (gas/oil/coolant etc).

Evo's curb weight is 3260lbs ....if I rem correctly..

SC~

i've heard e46 m3s running mid 13 to low 14 bone stock. evo should be pretty much the same if u know how to launch and shift. but i think m3 has more whp (250+ whp) compared to evo(220+whp). personally i think m3's are highly overrated.

There was one documented in MM&FF running high 12s at Englishtown in the cold October air.

Yep, saw that also. I would guess there are one or two guys (PRO) in the US able to to run a high 12 in a M3. Very, very unlikely that you will run into one of these guys on the street, so nothing to worry about there. However I would like to see a 40+ pull, they are similar weight so it would be fun to watch. And you gotta love that M3 CSL. Very cool car, too bad it cost so much.
