30k service a bit excessive ?

The factory manual calls out for replacement of the drive belt. Is it really necessary? It looks a bit excessive to me. The belt doesn't look like it's exposed to any environment unless you removed the undertray. I think ages affect the belt more than the mileage. What do you guys/gals think ?

I have 32k on my evo. It's also 4yrs old and the belt looks like it needs to be replaced. Starting to crack. So I think that's about right.

My belt ripped in the middle of the street and I wasn't even at 30k. I'm not sure what happened. I think something might have got caught since a couple minutes before I went over a gravel road.

even 30k is to long if you ask me, im planning on chaning it at 15k.
I wouldn't let belts be used more than 2 years tops even if it has only 10k miles on it. Thats my philosophy.

WOW, my RA doesnt recommend a replacement interval on the belts...

The honda shop does not recommend them at regular intervals either... Just if they start making noise or show damage...

It comes with the territory. The high cost of the recommended preventative maintenance expected when you own an evo.

No, he's talking about the serpentine belt that the AC compressor, alt, etc runs off of.
