An insurance broker can locate the "cheapest" insurance quote from his associated insurance companies, of which cost would be coverage dependent.
Nowdays, the people that you talk to that are associated with nationally based insurance companies may be categorized in three areas: agent, claims, and the people that know all aspects of insurance that would take care of you from insurance purchase through filing of claims to make sure that you are a happy customer when all is said and done. Customers may like the sale, but then when you need them most, the claims section may disappoint you to utter frustration. If you go with a nationally based insurance company, find a good agent that actually knows his/ her stuff.
ok, So what you are saying is that if i got with a broket that can get me an unknown insurance company that would be significantly less but if i ever get in an accident, it's going to be life if i dont have insurance and be on my own.
I do that kind of stuff for a living, and to clear the misconceptions, brokers don't go with "unknown" companies, per se. They may have access to several of the larger, more recognized companies while also have access to specialty companies that focus on a certain demographic rather than putting all of their money into marketing like some of the more recognizable companies. Many of them who don't advertise heavily are actually large, but the average person may not have heard of them.
Also, someone was talking about agents who help you through an accident, which isn't entirely accurate. The claims department itself is generally completely separate from the underwriting deparment, much less the agent.
