At that point you should be doing your learning process on something with far less power, where you are much less likely to get yourself into trouble.
im just comparing it to more expensive and equally powerful cars. for instance, if a parent were to give the kid a choice in a high performance car i would much rather him pick an Evo over a Z06 or bmw. The evo is easier to handle and cheaper to fix than the z06 or BMW.

Uh the evo doesn't even hold a candle to a Z06. The evo (like the STI) is an easy car to drive fast but this is both a good thing and a bad thing. It's a good thing because it means if you drive normally it's next to impossible to screw up but it's a bad thing because if you push too much, the car will just let go and then you're going to crash big. It's a car that fills you with a sense of invincibility that doesn't mix well with youthful ignorance and arrogance.

^^ I'd say that is a matter of perspective (in terms of "holding a candle to the Z06". You said it yourself, the EVO makes the driver feel invincible...more than I can say about driving a vette. So there has to be something the EVO can do the Z06 can't. They're just different cars--period.

True but in that case you might as well say the evo can hold a candle to a Formula 1 car or a fighter jet since both require extensive training to use properly.

i got my evo ix when i was 18 last august and it has been fine for a year and a half.....then i drove in montana and hit a patch of ice and went into a ditch through a barbed wire fender.....$11000, a whole new paint-job, intercooler, oil-cooler, bumper, undertray and many lonley days w/out my car later.......it looks better than new and i get it back tomarrow....but i think it isnt age that makes a bad driver...its their expirience....ive driven ITR's, 500+hp camaros...you name it...even an old testarossa......so i think age is only like 5% of why a person would be a bad driver...

Experience correlates with age, the vast majority of teenagers have little to no experience driving fast cars. Even the experienced ones have problems, look at Nick Hogan.

That's a good point. I was just looking at it in terms of street cars. There's no debating how much more advanced (in every way) that a true race car is to a street car.

the kid is not at fault...the parents are..if the kid gets hurt or even dies..its the parents fault..

I grew up racing go-karts and have driven multiple 400 hp+ cars (rwd, fwd, 4wd, you name it) since I turned 15, and would qualify as the spoiled **** kid. I am 19 now and have an EVO, which is a confidence inspiring car in the wet and snow and I love drifting around the mountains; however in the dry, if you are sliding around on decent tires, then you are going WAY too fast for the street and are being stupid/dangerous. I have never had a speeding ticket, nor have I wrecked a car. Just goes to show that there are some intelligent kids out there, which given the right car control education/ background, can often be better drivers than older people and do not fit the stereotype. ... then again I fully support the fact that alot of kids have no business being behind the wheel of a fast car and think the parents are to blame often more times than the kid for being stupid.

Intelligence has nothing to do with it, it's maturity. Despite what people may think, smart people are capable of making extremely stupid mistakes.

im just saying what would be safer for a kid to drive? and im talking about higher-performance cars. which is what a kid would want. like i said i had my evo for longer than most of you guys have. close to five years held up fine.

True but at the same time the comparison doesn't work since neither option is very safe, basically trying to pick between a rock and a hardplace. Buying a kid a high performance isn't good for anyone or the car.

hey im only 17 driving a evo and i drive damn well and ik wat my car does and ik how to control it but i guess if ur stupid with the car things like this can occur. but just dont say oo well young kids shouldnt have cars like this because its not only the kids that r getting into the accidents its the older people too. u see everyday someone posting, "crashed the evo today" idk people just need to learn how to drive right and make there choices right instead of wrong decision that they choose. ik crashed once or anything. had 2 evos 1 03 black evo wen i was 15 going on 16 and my new one that i got now evo 9 se. and i do work my a$$ off for this car
