I guess if you hit redline in 4th gear than you do need to shift, but I have heard of people letting it bounce off the rev-limiter at the end of the track.

Yes evo 8 can but evo 9's usually can't. Most guys bounce off the rev-limiter before they finish their run, but not that big of a deal.

With 310whp, it won't matter. It doesn't become a problem until 115+ mph, and you would find that info out in the drag forum where we discuss drag racing constantly...

Haha....that's funny. I was just going to say that I remember a few posts from Warrtalon about not needing 5th, and then he ended up posting before I could get it out.

I would go with the five speed. Better for autox and cheaper to replace (by a long shot!).

Actually, on the IX, the 5spd doesn't help much. Gears 1-4 in the IX 5spd are almost identical to the 6spd, so there is no benefit to the 5spd. In fact, since 4th is so short, then 5th has to be an overdrive gear from 110-160 while the 6spd has both an intermediate gear for good acceleration in the 100-130mph range as well as better highway gearing for cruising when in 6th.

Neither is better for auto-x.

shifting to 5th might slow your times down.
