Dim Dummy Oil Light

I was driving the car around for around 20 miles, and all of a sudden the dummy oil light turns on very dimmly. It wasn't completely on but I could faintly see it on, like it was flickering a little bit. I turned the car off immediately and waited a minute and turned it back on and the oil light wasn't on anymore. any idea what could cause this? or what a dim oil light means?

oops i forgot to mention. I did check the oil level and it's spot on, last time i thought i changed it was 2800 miles ago. I use 10w-30 mobil 1 since the day i got the car. I'm just going to hope it never comes back on again. I guess it's time for an oil pressure gauge.

Dexmix just had the same problem. He changed his oil and it went away. I would recommend moving away from mobil 1.

I've been using Mobil 1 on my 4g63 engines for 10 years now.. I don't think that's the problem..

Dim oil light could be from a bad sender.. a $15 part. Sometimes it also goes on when your alternator is weak or the idle is low. Assuming your car is under warranty, I'd call them and see if you can get a new sender, it would take longer to get the car on the lift than it would to change the sender.

i really don't know what the issue is, but 05's and 06's seem to have really sensitive pressure sensors. its a cheap part though - and they seem to be really finicky. i changed my oil, and it went away slowly, but i will change it out if it starts acting up again.

i've heard this also. same thing happened to autobonevo, an 05 in MA. turned out to be his bettery. first thing i checked was my voltages, after i realized my oil level was fine.

my oil light would turn off, once i got the rpms up.

My evo does this as well, I think it's an issue with the IX's....the light only flashes at idle and goes off completely when I'm driving.

i wasn't aware that this is a common problem with the 9. if that's the case i guess i'll just opt for a oil pressure gauge.

I forgot to mention the first time this happned i was driving through a snowstorm.

Something new crept up soon after this though. The light that illuminates 0-60mph went out once in a while. Like it'll be off for 30 mins then come on. then off again for a day and then on for a day. Now it seems that everything was fine for the last few weeks no probs. Then again yesterday night I was driving through another snow storm and that damn dummy oil light slowly lights up then dims down then lights up then dims down again constantly for about 10 mins.

I'm not too sure if my 2 problems are related (dim dummy oil light & the bulb going on/off for the 0-60mph zone). but this is an annoying problem that i'm afraid if i take it to the dealership they would say they can't do anything because they can't replicate the problem. what should i do about this?
