do i need EGT gauge?

i'm trying to get some gauges, boost, oil pressure for sure, but if i'm not planning on doing too much to my evo, just regular bolt-ons, maybe cobb accessport in the future, do i really need EGT gauge? i heard that's mostly for tuning purpose.

you dont really NEED any gauges. I would avoid the EGT as it is a little more intrusive to install.

I would say get something else, unless you plan on tuning the car yourself. If you take your car to a shop then they can worry about the EGT otherwise buy yourself another gauge.

EGT can be a very useful gauge to have. If you don't have a wideband, it can actually tell you if your running leaner/richer than normal.

Had an EGT gauge once. Didn't find it too useful.

You know what?

EGT gauges are nice to have. I've owned a couple Talon TSI AWD's and Eclipse GSX's, and had the gauges in every one. Yes... a little intrusive to install, but it's a nice warning indicator, and if you intend on doing any big mods, it is nice to have.

Some people try and tune by them. I DO NOT recommend you do this! It's nothing more than a warning indicator. Anything you see on that gauge has already happened and then some as there is a small delay between the sensor picking up the temperature, and showing it on the gauge. However, if you're driving your car hard, and notice that more often than not you're running excessive exhaust gas temps, sometimes it's worth looking into why.

For the person doing basic engine breathing mods it's not necessary. But anyone wanting to go much further could only benefit by any sort of engine monitoring that shows how hot you're running.

Also... in relation to the A/F gauge, I don't know if it's the same deal as the DSM's, but unless you're going wideband, A/F gauges don't do a whole lot more than give you a pretty light show. If you decide on an A/F gauge, spend a few bucks and get something you can tune with.

Boost
To make sure your not overboosting, and it helps identify leaks in IC piping while on the road.

Wideband O2
Great tool for determining if your running ruch/lean and error checking tunes performed by someone other than yourself. (security)

Oil Pressure
This will let you know that you havent cracked your block yet. Very good to have

Volt
I have one, but only because I have a high stress on my electrical system (subwoofers)

Fuel Pressure
If your doing basic bolt ons, you wont need this. It's more for serious! engines with high pressure and alot to loose from a decreased fuel supply.

Tranny Temp
A novel Idea, but probably not a big deal unless you race a lot.

Oil Temp
Yeah thats a nice one, but not too high on the priority.

Water temp
Seriously? Your stock cluster has a similar feature.

NarrowBand O2
This one is a piece of garbage, serves almost no purpose other than to randomly take a guess what your A/F is every couple of minutes or so.

There you go, if I forgot one let me know. The ones in BOLD are the ones I would get first.

If you are tuning which you are somewhat with the cobb accessport then get it. all you gotta do is drill a hole in your downpipe and run the cable
