loose airbag in evo steering wheel

so i bought a used steering wheel from this forum and it turned out to have a loose airbag. i think all i need is a missing bolt on the right side, but im not too sure. it is also missing and rear plastic piece cover. tomorrow i plan to go to a mitsu dealership, and see what they have. i hope they have something in stock so i dotn have to wait for it to come in.

oh and the reason why i started this thread was to see if what's making loose is a missing screw or whatnot and if i can just get that at like home depot or something. i need to know EXACTLY what to get, thanks!

you will need the factory bolt to hold it in. they are the only bolts that sould go into the air bag. When I went through air bag tranning there was some scary vids of air bags not installed right with new factory bolts.

i believe its a 30Torx if not smaller then that 25 maybe, but like you said your gonna need to get those special screws from the dealership. Then your loose air bag should be solved

Are you talking about the round center airbag piece in the middle of the steering wheel? Does it move around? If so that is nornal. Mine does that from the factory and was never tampered with, I have seen other Evo's with the same thing. I don't think it's the actual airbag but rather the horn assembly moving around.

^^ that can be the case, but since he noted that hes missing a bolt on the right hand side (hoping hes refering to the small hole on both sides of Steering wheel) the airbag can move a lil more then normal then what your saying, mine as well did move around a tad bit

You can replace the whole airbag assembly. Gonna cost serious money though.

pull out another screw like it and carry it down to lowes (home depot) or whatever, and get another one. Make sure the thread is the same, and it is the same material, it doesnt really have to be TORX-head. TORX is just used when they dont want you tampering with something, as the common household doesnt have a set of TORX-wrenches sitting around.

^Had the same issue as you only I had BOTH bolts missing. I took a wooden skewer for BBQ'ing and put it in the hole as far as it would go, then measured it. Then I took the skewer and broke it in half and put it in the hole to measure the width. Then just go to a hardware store and find a bolt that is the same size. You don't need the bolts from the dealership. Unfortunately I don't remember the size of the bolts sorry.

so i went to home depot today, i was able to measure before hand, but i made a well educated guess for the size, haha. it was really cheap anyways. luckily, i was able to possibly pick out the right one. the size i got was 12-24 x 2" and i just tried it, i didnt think it fit, but i started turing the screw and it was slowly going in. so i got a screw driver and just screwed it all the way until i couldnt anymore. it basically fixed the problem, except the airbag still looks a little crooked, but it isn't loose anymore. i dont know why its crookde though, and as soon as i loosen it a bit, it will act as if it doesnt matter (being loose) i guess im satisfied for now, haha
