problem with my VIII

ok so its cold as ***** and im getting in my car @ 6 AM turn it over and it wont start. cranks but never runs. fuel was low so i added some(thought it my be to low in the cold weather) still nothing, get pissed and just crank it over till bat. dies. run to get some cables from my house then return. let bat. charge for about 10 minutes on a good car that runs. still no go, after about 5 min. of cranking and no running i look under the hood(who knows why) it looks like some black fuel/oil is coming out of the turbo(exhaust side) was all over my waste gate. im late for work so i use my spare car to get going. when i get home i try to start it again and after i crank for a min. or so it fires up with a pump of the gas and funs for 10 second at a really bad idle and motor was jogging bad. i havent got the car home yet to get a good look yet(i work on my own cars) their is a grinding sound when i try to stat it also... starter going out maybe? i don't thing the timing belt is broke or anything.

could the starter cause this?

any help is appreciated.

thanks

may have got some water in the fuel filter, injectors or lines that has frozen. Wait til this afternoon and try later. I think its supposed to warm up some more here. Or get it in a warm garage for a bit.
Although killing the battery isnt going to help you too much.

That "black fuel oil" is unburned fuel mixed with carbon from the engine being flooded. Change your plugs, check your oil for gas contamination and it sounds like you may have fried your starter also. Time to read the manual on starting procedures.

"get pissed and just crank it over till bat. dies." "after about 5 min. of cranking" sorry that's not how you start a car especially when it's "cold as *****"

Why don't you try disconnecting the xede and reconnecting the factory harness. I use to run the xede on my car and it used to give me problems in the winter.

Yea it worked for me Im not sure if your xede is giving you the problem, but you should give it a shot. If it works then it's because of the map in the xede that's causing the problem.

My 03 failed to start on me once. It was -19* and -30 with the wind. The car would crank but wouldn't pop off. I suspect cams, cam gears, and 10w30 oil didn't help things. I called a buddy and we hooked up the tow strap then popped the clutch. VVVRROOOOOOM.... started right up. After that I started using some HEAT additive, set cam gears to 0/0, and ran 5W30 in the winter.

Hell yes Jeff, people from WI know about cold weather starting procedure. After a few tries it's time to go to plan B. Starters are too expensive to burn up. I've resorted to the charcoal under the oil pan trick more than once.

Ice racing this weekend if you're interested. http://www.w-a-g.org/

most cold start maps aren't too cold weather friendly. most maps are done in warmer weather and can't adjust to the colder temps automatically. i've had this problem with my EMS. i have 2 different cold start setups. one for winter and one for summer. i usually just add some timing and a bit of fuel to keep it running while it's warming up.
