I would suggest turning the boost down a touch and getting a fuel pump. The stock pump in these VIII's suck.

Also, your orig post says cops in Northern VA are import ****'s and you want to remain low-key SO YOU GO AND BUY A YELLOW EVO. Your comments and your action seem to be a bit contradictory.

Have fun with it, watch out for the po po...

LOL - I understand that the contradiction. I got this yellow one for a very good price, I would have prefered silver or white. BUT, since it is yellow and attracts a lot of unwanted attention, no since in putting an exhaust that gives the po po a reason to actually pulling me over

Just talked to Nick from DTM and will be bringing the car by there shop for a look over and maybe even a custom exhaust to fit my needs with the quiet part (and also free up some power). I have read and heard many good things about DTM and pretty excited to get up there.

get a exhaust that matches the loudness & tone that you want. if u still have a stock 8 fp then u better get a walbro or atleast a 9 fp. then get tuned. boost might be a bit high due to the weather. either way get a tune or atlst a log. but those are good numbers!

I think you should return the car back to bone stock including the tune and then modify it. Not knowing exactly what was done and running 25 psi and that lean of a A/F ratio could be trouble down the road.

Here is a receipe of parts I would use:

1. 3 inch turbo back exhaust
2. Wide band O2 Sensor. This is essential for accurate tuning.
3. Tactrix cable
4. Software (ECUflash)
5. Walbro fuel pump
6. MBC or PILL
7. 272 Cams
8. Drop in filter
9. EVO IX Turbo

Good luck!

i'm running a 3inch turboback with a hi-flow cat.
the exhaust is RRE Stealth.....which looks and sounds absolutely stock.

even the tip is 3 inches (stock is 4).

Stop by and I will give you as many free dyno runs as you want to prove it. It may have been a sniffer Wideband reading. And the car, if tuned by us, has a lifetime tuning schedule. Meaning that as long as you have the stock turbo, the tuning is free.

Enjoy the car

edit: the car has a stock exhaust and CAT? That would explain alot.
Crap! I'd love for you to be in Texas!!

There are NO TRUE 3" tbe out there that sound absolutely stock. Any exhaust that sounds stock is either stock or it has some serious neck downs or restrictions. That being said. I do own the RRE stealth exhaust and do agree it looks more sleeper than the stock exhaust. But it IS definately noticeably louder than the stocker. Even took the rally cat off and threw in the stocker, NOPE, still louder. It is the quietest true 3" catback but it is still loud as *****. Sounds mean when you step on it too. All the guys on SoCalEvo that said it is just like stock are all on crack!!! I hate noise and if I drove my Evo every day, I would have pulled the RRE off already and sold it.

And to the OP, if you were really running on pump gas with 25 lbs of boost and 13+:1 afr, unless you had negative timing throughout the entire power band, I don't expect your car to last too long. In fact, it may already be on it's last leg.

Just an update, I had DTM re-tune the car and install a Walbro Fuel Pump. Let me say its running MUCH BETTER!!!!! Im going back next week for a custom exhaust to be installed and a new MBC with a tune. Nick at DTM got the car to run a much nicer AFR for now. Unfortunetly the Perrin MBC is not working correctly and that is why boost is maxing out. Once I get the new MBC and exhaust it should hopefully be smooth sailing with decent power. I can't thank DTM enough for getting my car back to running so smooth.

I'm glad to hear that everything worked out for you. This is the first time I've seen this thread and i would have said that Nick would NEVER tune a car even remotely close to that lean with the setup that you have. I'm glad you took your car back there, you will be taken good care of.

How are you DTM 280 cams working out for you?? I hear nothing but great things about the gains that can be made but what about idle roughness or any other issues i should be worried about on a DD? After exhaust I will end up getting cams and APR studs.

I am currently only running the exhaust cam, which at this point in my setup, is the only one that I wanted to run to free up exhaust flow. The cam works great and really helped out in the mid range of my powerband. You are not able to tell whatsoever that I have a cam in my car at idle, there are no ill effects. I would highly recommend these cam/cams to you. Are you running an VIII or a IX??
