Help a Newb out! (Dyno and pics attached)

Hey All,

I just bought a used 03 Lancer Evo8 with 48k. I talked with the owner a little when I bought the car and he told me that he had a MBC, HKS panel filter, and custom tune from DTM. I should have asked more questions but it had skipped my mind. Everything seems to run correctly and Im happy with the car. I decided to take it to Curry's Auto to have it dyno'ed with air/fuel and boost readings. I was surprised at how much boost its running and the power it made.

Mods:
Perrin MBC
HKS panel Filter
Custom tuning

Here is my Dyno Sheet (Mustang AWD Dyno) (Sorry I really don't know what correction factors they used.)

AFR/Boost Readings:

Pic of my car:

Bottomline, this car is my DD and I plan on keeping it for the next few years. I want it to be reliable as possible. I would ideally like to obtain 320ish awhp on a mustang dyno WITHOUT Exhuast modifcations. Do anyone of you think that maybe upgrading to a turbo from an evo9, cams, and great custom tuning will get me there? Any advice/comments will be appreciated! I have been researching a lot. I do not want to have an exhaust to Northern VA police being Import ****'s! I dont really plan to track or street race, I just want an DD beast!

Impressive mustang dyno numbers for an VIII with 48K miles and minimal mods at 25 psi. Congratulations!

I posted this thread on the local EVO forum and everyone is definetly saying the boost is too high and AFR is running lean Damn I don't want to lose any hp by turning the boost down but I guess it will be needed to have the car run safely.

it is good power for what you have but your running very lean. High 12s at PK tq and low-mid 13s by 6350 rpm is way to lean for me. Is it a tail pipe sniffer or did they use your exhaust sensor hole? Is this on straight pump gas? Do you have logs of the car?

Sorry, these sheets are what I have. They did three pulls and all three were pretty much consistent. They used a tailpipe sniffer for the AFR. It was on 93 octane pump gas. I do notice when I floor it that after 5k rpms or so I feel the car has power spikes that almost feels like timing is being pulled. Its probably knocking a little but it just doesnt seem the dyno charts is showing that.

13.4:1 peak AFR is WAY lean. Even the 12.6:1 is too lean, and that's your richest spot. I think you're making all this power due to being so lean, but it's also very dangerous. With those mods, on a Mustang, you should honestly, only be making 220-230WHP (Safley at 20psi+ at 11:1 AFR).

I'd suggest a retune.

Why would you NOT want exhaust mods? Remember, the HP secret is: breath in, breath out. It really is that simple. Do you mean you want/need a quiet exhaust? That can be done. However, any other mods you install prior to a full 3" exhaust will simply be choked by your puny pipes.

TURBO: Depends on what octane fuel you have. If you have 93 or 94, then the $450-500 for an IX turbo might be worth while.

CAMS: Really wake up an VIII. By far the best mod I've done, after the exhaust. Buy street cams; not some exciting big lobed drag or track cams.

TUNE: Buy/borrow a Tactrix cable so you can data log and check your knock counts, etc. Then if there is problem, or you add more mods, your will be all ready to eTune. From the looks of the dyno graph, I'd say you may need some tunning right now. Buy, then I'm old and conservative.

I would say 13s in the af are very lean when running wot. 25 psi on pump with no alk/meth/water injection or head bolts is pretty high. Good numbers but I would get a more conservative tune.

Give Nick at DTM a call. I have a link to his website at the bottom of my signature. He might remember your Evo. I would make sure that it was tuned at 25 psi. Your AFR's are pretty lean. He did a fantastic job tuning my car.

Not bad numbers. I think you may want to add more fuel to the mix

Thanks for the response guys. The only reason I don't want to upgrade the exhaust is due VA's police ticketing like crazy around here. I MAY consider getting the most quiet TBE I can find. I have been researching like crazy for the quietest and have viewed a lot of threads on the matter. THis is my DD and I dont need to get a ticket every month on top of my car payment. I think I will have the car looked over very soon by the local shops in my area. I have my CL right now for sale but using it until I get my EVO sorted out. I appreciate the response and Im learning a great amount about the EVO on this forum. This is my first AWD and Turbo car.

Do you all think that adding a walbro fuel pump and tuning it with more fuel will help keep the numbers I have?

Are you sure it doesn't have one already?
