Close call - kinda disappointed in the EVO

So i had just gotten McDonalds and going to leave the parking lot when out of nowhere a honda SUV (not a pilot, one of those boxy looking ones) is coming out of another part of the lot heading right for me. This guy wasn't even paying attention where he was going... Anyway i honk my horn put my high beams on and hit the breaks. instantly the abs comes on and the car just keeps on rolling as if i wasn't hitting the breaks. I turn the wheel to the right now we are only bout 8-9 feet from each other and maybe a foot from the curb when the guy finnaly looks at me and turns the wheel away from me. He comes to a stop and i just keep going by with the breaks still being pressed. Now if this guy hadn't stop i would have surely hit him or the curb. I know the ABS allowed me to steer the car away but if he hadn't stopped we certanly would have hit. There was a bit of snow less than an inch on the ground and i have winter tires.

Sliding on snow after slamming on the brakes makes you disappointed in your car? You must have high standards.

is this guy serious, No vehicle is capable of not sliding on ICE, what makes winter tires great and the car is the ability to manuever around in the ice without sliding.
you should not be disapointed at all.

when the brakes are fully depressed and abs is kicking in in the snow it doesn't really matter what car you have it would do that

Blame your tires and your lack of understanding of the traction you had available in those conditions with those tires, not the Evo.

ABS + Snow = still sliding. I get the same thing here in CA with the rain. You just need to know how your car acts when traction isn't good.

Go find an empty parking lot and just mess around and actually learn what the limits are on your car.

It's called INERTIA.

Sometimes it's your friend, and sometimes your enemy.

Maybe you should have bought an Abrams, or something with a bit more bite.

Just saying.

The e-break might of helped, but most of the time ABS>YOU.

I have driven in the snow and up to this point loved the way the evo reacts in it. And the car wasn't sliding. i know when a car slides and that isn't what happended here. The car kept a perfect track even when turning so it wasn't sliding. If it had been sliding then either the car wouln't have turned or the rear end would have kicked out but neither happened here the car just kept going like nottin. Like i said before I know the ABS allowed the car to steer but it wasn't slowing down at all i was only going like 10 MPH

I did think about that but i think that would have just made the rear end kick out and that's the part that would have hit the other car.

It just sucks because i feel like the police would have said that it was my fault, when this guy wasn't paying attention and to make things worse my son was in the car.

In low traction snow situations you generally have 2 choices, brake in a straight line, or release brakes and attempt to turn.

I think the ABS was giving you more le-way in the ability to turn versus actually trying to stop the car at first (because you locked the wheel and also going 100% brake pedal very suddenly ).

It's a give or take in snow, you can't have both mutually.
