Cylinder 1 misfire?

My #1 cylinder is misfiring. I came home from a 100 mile trip and shut the car off. When I turned it back on 15 minutes later it was missing. No advanced warning. Everything was fine up until then.

I pulled the plug wire on that cyl. and it was getting spark. The car ran the same when I did this. I didn't get worse. I took the plug out and hooked it up to the wire and started the car and I could see it sparking. I swapped the coils around and same thing.

I took it to Autozone to read the code. They said misfire on cylinder 1 or something about an open circuit. I don't know what that means. And I never asked him what the code number was.

It seems that its getting spark to everything. I just installed these new plugs and a fuel pump last week. NGK bpr7es. Gapped to .027. I even put the old plugs back in that had nothing wrong with them.

Could it possibly be a clogged fuel injector?

I haven't done anything with the injector yet. I won't be able to mess with that until tomorrow after work. Is there a lot of work involved with pulling the 1 injector?

Here's an update. Still a no go for cyl. 1. I swapped the injectors around. Still bad. I did a compression test and thats good. I swapped the plugs around again and still bad. My friend thinks maybe some relay for the injector on cyl 1 is bad. I don't know where to start with that.

same thing happened to me. I went nuts trying so many options, swapping injectors, going around with a multimeter checking everything. I even started dissecting the wiring harness. I'm guessing the code you got was p0201 open circuit injector #1. What ended up happening is that the section of the ECU that controls injector pulse died, and the injector resistor died. I wouldn't say your ECU is a goner yet. Have the resistors checked first. It's bolted to the firewall covered with a heatsink right next to the abs unit on the passenger side of the engine bay. The resistor is $70 from the dealer and is connected by a quick connect right next to it. My #1 cylinder was stuck open and an 880cc injector was spraying fuel all the way out my tailpipe good stuff

Ok. I just pulled the fuel rail again and had my dad try starting it. That #1 injector was not firing at all. And I did swap two of the injectors earlier today. No I don't know what the code was because I forgot to ask the guy who read it. But I can go back tomorrow and have him read it again so I can know the code.

I'm not sure what the abs unit looks like so I'm not sure what exactly I'm looking for. I did see a big bundle of wires spitting into 4 sections with some sort of white shrink wrap on the connectors. Would that be it?

Nevermind. I found the resistor pack. Was it $70 for the whole pack?

apparently it's $70 for the whole thing. Mitsu is doing mine as we speak because I got so frustrated trying to find out what was wrong that I flipped and had it towed to the dealer. But my ECU was fried too, but that was my fault

How did they say it would take to get the part in? Cause I think a local guy had his resistor pack go bad recently too. And they told him 30-45 days because it had to be shipped from Japan. I tried calling him today to get the details on everything but haven't been able to reach him.

Also is there a way to test the signal on it? And test the signal coming from the ECU? With say, a multimeter.

Ok. I got ahold of my buddy. He said he did order the resistor pack, but it takes a month to get in. He said the dealership jumped the resistor or something like that but he doesn't know how.

So does anyone out there know how to do this? And does anyone have a wiring diagram for the injector system. From the ECU to the injector.

Ah haha. I got the culprit out of the car. I'm going to order one from Mitsu tomorrow, but if it's gonna take a month to get in, I need to find a way to rig it temporarily until then. Anybody know how?

I found an online service manual for the Evo 8, but I don't understand most of the wiring schematics.

Here's some pics of the injector resistor pack.

Ok. I found the problem. In the third pic, one of the black wires rusted off of the ceramic resistor. And while I was dinking with it I broke another one off. So I'm definately ordering a new one tomorrow. But now I have to figure out how to reattach them.

I don't know how to jump it out. I wish I did cause I'd be driving right now. Anyway the resistor pack was ordred for me on Monday and they said it would have been here Yesterday. I dropped off my new ECU to Mitsu and they said it'll be ready soon but still haven't heard from them. I'm getting anxious and a bit pissed. Everytime I need info from the dealer about my car they never call. They always tell me they'll call with updates and I always have to call them. It's killing me cause it's my DD. I also don't want them to tool around in the car because it has quite a bit of mods and all the roms are stored in my computer to reflash it. They would be driving on a stock rom which would not be good. If you have a hard time getting a resistor I'll ask if they can get one for you here maybe they'll send it to you.
