here's a question we ALL want answered!
I too also lurk on many forums. My two cents that I've noticed:
A lot of them are freeloading off their parents in one way or another. Either they're living at home (that's $500/mo. not going towards rent that can go towards mods), or their parents are pumping them with money in some other way: they may be paying for their schooling, paying for their insurance, gas money, etc.
Some of them are racking up the credit cards to buy these mods, their car is their priority and they may live in some ghetto cheap apartment/house so they can pay for their car.
Some exaggerate just how many mods and money they've put into their car.
Some can actually afford it. These guys are usually single and graduated from college.
But look at it this way. How many times have you heard "I'm selling my Evo because I can't afford the payments/insurance/gas/maintence or I'm buying a house/moving out and need to sell my Evo to free up some cash" ? Don't feel bad because a lot times they can't afford the car and all the mods and end up having to sell it.
These are just a few observations I've made through my many hours of forum lurking, it doesn't apply to just Evo owners.

I hear ya...
I'm bummed because I didn't buy my evo to just have an evo lol These things mod like no other! haha It's newer, a little more reliable then an older car (and the closest thing to an evo 6 haha) my 2 dream cars were an evo and a 944 turbo since I was a little little kid. Now my 944... OH GAWD! that thing was tooooooooo fast and I didn't do any of the mods, an old guy with I'd assume some money did it all but sold it to me for so cheap! and I was only 18 so I was into street racing
but 4th gear tire spin and 30 psi FTW! hahamaybe thats why I'm so sour about my evo.. I go from a 944 that probly woulda trapped up near 120, to a 110 trapping srt to a 100 mph trapping evo.. OOOO i donooooo
Ive narrowed it down (in my mind) to 2 possible explanations:
1. They still live at home with mom and dad. Nothing wrong with that, suck on the ***** of your parents as long as you can
2. Credit cards. EZ, instant money that you never see. It doesnt get any easier for the means to spend cash. The worst, or best, thing the credit card companies ever did was introducing those words: minimum monthly payment due
Outside of those 2 things, really, what else is there? Unless you are naturally very wealthy. Which i guess would be number 3

i tell ya some guys i bet do insurance fraud. they have a friend or know how to do bodywork themselfes. So they intentionally damage the car, fix it for almost free, collect insurance ($2,000-$3,000), then go buy that 35gt turbo and install it themselfes. BASTARDS make our insurance goes up as the outcome.
most im sure just make good money or like myself live in a rat shack in order to finance 2 new cars. Damm you doctors and lawyers with your big bank roll stacks. hahahhah

I can see my dad being able to do that... if he didn't have mortgage, electircal, oil, cable, omg the list is toooo long haha Unless someone just makes really good money and lives in an apartment with no kids or anything...
There's another possibility. Let me use myself as an example. I'm a grown-*** man with a practice, a home in an exclusive area, children who are very well cared for, and I do have some discretionary income. I spend it on recordings (ie. music) and cars. I worked my butt off in school for many years, worked just as hard at my job, and now I'm enjoying the benefits.
It helps if you live with your parents.
But it also helps if you budget your money. I wanted to buy a house, but with the market the way it is I decided to let the value of homes drop. I also bought the Evo IX during a sale to make room for the EVO X.
I have two car payments, and the only way I could do it is with LOTS of overtime in the summer construction months.

i think there are alot of reasons. my wife and i have pertty good jobs. im military and dont make too much but i dont drink or party or spend money on random crap. ive invested some money here and there and made some good choices towards my future which allows me to spend a few grand here and there to build a car and enjoy a few hobbies. oh i have a mortgage, and car payment and bills i split with my wife. i think its just how u plan it and of course when u get out of school im sure youll be better off. good luck man.

To me it seems like you're more interested in knowing how other youngers like yourself between the ages of 18-24 get the money to make their Evo's look so hot. I maybe wrong about that, but in that age range, it's either they run themselves into debt with credit cards or they're from a well off family.
I think from the age range that are 25 and up, we just work hard. Some of us benefited from working our @ss off in college to get our degree and then get some good paying job.

Good for you. That is the way it should be. But do you think that everyone on here that has dropped boat loads of money into their car did it that way? I think thats more so along the lines of what the OP was thinking. Sometimes you see people that barely have 2 nickels to rub together, but their car has lots of cash thrown into it....
Also, to the last poster. I know tons of people in my age group that do this so yes your correct. It's hard to see myself at 21 years old paying of a charge card. I see myself doing it when I have a real reason too or even when I can pay it off through just petty cash that I have left over lol
But I see people paying for this stuff in cash too! I have a freind with an srt that buys something new everyday! like he just buys a new turbo and meth inj just cause he wants 130 traps haha. hes 22 and has been living on his own since he was like 18... I just don't get it lol I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

I'm 22 about to finish school work full time. I've been at the same company going on 5 years. Company has been real good to me. I'm not married and no kids. I'm very blessed my parents have been able to have multiple homes, so I don't have to pay rent. I think its all about how you manage your money.
Before my build I had been saving to buy a bike, I had roughly 7k saved another couple and i would have bought the bike of my choice. In the mean time i had a cheap cheap cheap used one to practice on to get really comfortable. So when time came to buy a bike i thought about all the accidents and amount of people that get seriously injured and the people that die and i decided its not for me and built my motor. Took me about a year to save that money. I didnt just wake up one day and throw it on my visa card. I paid everything with a check card or cash.
Never put yourself into debt over a car. Especially if youre making payments on the car too. If its paid off then i guess you still have a car to get around in, but i've heard of people losing their cars cause theyre paying so much towards their cc too that they fall behind and cant afford either.
Buy what you can when you can, one step at a time is best instead of everything in one shot with the exception of a few things....
Cheers!
