Stuck with cat...Help
I went to a local shop to have my cat back put on. The guy who did the install thought he was doing me a favor and cut off the rear flange on my cat. He then welded the mid pipe straight to the cat to eliminate a bottle neck. Now I cannot bolt up my test pipe. And no shop in town will cut out a cat and weld in the test pipe. Any ideas? dont have to pass emissions here but not too sure about gutting the cat due to the chamber effect. Anyone?

Thats a lot of work to put the flanges back on all because of a screw up.
Maybe try a welding/machine type shop, not really sure if they are bound by the same rules where you're at as opposed to a car specific shop.
Personally I would call upon a friend that welds, maybe a friend of a friend in the evo world.

Take it back to the guy and have him do the work on the part he ****ed up on duh. If he wont do it then tell him he has to pay for a new set up for you since you didnt tell him to do it in the first place.
A lawyer will cost a lot more then a Cat Back. You could take him to Small Claims and point out to the judge, that if the Cat was ever inspected for smog, the modifying of the Cat (cut and weld) is illegal.
yeah, taking possession of your property doesn't imply consent to their incompetence. It's not likely that a service shop will to go through the trouble of extra cutting and welding for no reason, they probably fubared something on the cat/midpipe and this was their "fix"
A service shop usually makes you sign a consent form to do work to your vehicle, or otherwise known as an R.O. (Repair Order). It outlines the work that is going to be done to your car, no more, no less. It also states that before the perform and other work that they need your consent. If you have one of these and it clearly states what you brought your car in for then you are golden. If not and the shop is half a$$ed then you may be SOL.
