Painting Front Lip

So, I know that our Evo's tend to get scuffed on the front lip. Mine is the same way. So, I was thinking about painting it with Krylon. After looking at it I think it can be done with the lip still on the car, just drive it onto some ramps, mask off everything above the 90-degree edge on the lip and paint away. The texture may be very slighly off but since it is the bottom of the lip it doesn't really matter (plus this is what buffing compound is for). So, is there a reason why my plan won't work? Obviously it won't hold up to more scratching but I don't scrape regularly so I figure doing this every year or two will keep the front end looking purty, at least from more than a foot away. Comments?

Painting the whole lip, or just the bottom scuffed part?

Just the bottom part. Maybe up to the seam where the bottom meets the rest of the bumper. But probably just the bottom, the scuffs are all along a single line so masking them off should be cake.

Edit: Just a note, my Evo is black so color matching will be easy. This will be more difficult for cars that aren't black/white, I have learned this from experiences painting other vehicles (*cough* dropped bikes)

I don't understand why people keep parts on the car when painting. I wouldn't risk overspray on my evo, plus it might take you 15 minutes to remove the lip.

I looked into it, it's a pain to remove and I don't want to bother with fasteners. Also, breaking the little plastic fasteners seems easy and I don't want to bother if possible.

Overspray is a concern, but as long as you are careful with masking it's not a big deal. You definitely don't have to worry about drips because you are painting the bottom of the car so it doesn't really have anywhere to run.

I'd just take the lip off to paint it. It is REALLY easy to remove. Then you don't have to worry about the overspray at all. I've taken my bumper off countless times and the clips are still good to go. It really isn't that hard.

I'll look into it. However, I'm not really worried about the masking vs. taking off, I'm more worried about the durability/texture of the paint. On a black car, will it be very noticeable if I use Krylon vs. having the stealership do it for me? Will the paint flake off shortly or will it stay on for some time? Any concerns with rattlecanning the Evo? What kind of paint have you used for touch-up in the past?

If the plastic fasteners are a problem, lancershop.com sells a pack of 10. I just purchased mines yesterday cause I'm installing a Ralliart replica lip.
