Gauge recommendations

I'm looking for a quality EGT, oil temp, oil pressure gauge. I know Defi are nice quality but I don't really want to spend what they want for their gauges. Any recommendations besided defi?

Apexi has introduced the new EL II line of guages which have blue backlighting and matching tachs.

Jeff- I know you mentioned Defi, and high prices, but have you had a chance to take a look at their D-gauge collection? They are mechanical gauges and don't have any of the high-zoot electronic features like peak hold, alarm , and record, but they are a fairly reasonably priced alternative to VDO or Autometer. They also read in imperial units (ie- PSI/Farenheidt) which may be good or bad I guess.

You will spend $120 on the boost gauge, $200 on the EGT, and I think about $100 on the oil pressure. The plus with Defi is that you do get a nice fast responding stainless EGT probe and bung as a part of the kit. When you start pricing the Autometer and realize you have to buy the probe kit seperately (and the high-end probe kit isn't cheap!)the price comparison starts to level out somewhat.

The Dgauges also look great with red/amber background lighting which with the black faced gauges seems to matche the EVO's dash lighting pretty nicely. The worst issue with the Dgauges is finding them as they have been on back-order for some time.

Could you elaborate please? Automoter EGT with PROBE sell for $125-150 with probe. I am not aware of any high-end probe kit as opposed to the non-high end probe kit. Do you have any links to the high-end probe vs low end probe? What is the difference between the high/low end probes?

Thanks

The more expensive probes tend to respond faster due to more expensive (but not necessarily longer lasting) metals used in construction. However, they tend not to last as long as the regular probes.

modvp: Thanks. But in the summit link above, they are all type K probes (maybe except for the one that comes with the Z series though). The 'Z-series' is the gauge style (like Sport-Comp), not the probe type.

Here is a good link about thermo probes:
http://www.capgo.com/Resources/Senso...rmocouple.html

According to this link http://www.autometer.com/hp/2003_cat...sories/90.html, autometer has 3 probes:

- Type K (Proffessional)
- Competition (Sportsman Racing)
- Performance probe

Too bad they don't specify the actual type for the latter two, so we still have no idea on what the diffs between the autometer probes are.

For example, what probe comes with this Autometer gauge?

Where Can I order the D gauges? even if they are on backorder where can I at least check them out? Do any vendors on the board sell them?

I searched for vdo's but came up with nothing.

Any info you guys have would help. Thanks for the feedback so far.

I had the Blitz DC series boost gauge - one that requires a live unit - in my evo before. The reading was off.... Maybe I just had a bad gauge/live unit. They are pretty cool looking though, you can even adjust the contrast of the gauge digitally.

The AC series looks awesome. My friend had 3 AC gauges in his wrx with the defi pod. Nothing was wrong with the readings. They are a little on the "too bright" side at night, but still looks very good.

hks, greddy, blitz, jun, defi, they are all great
if you dont want to spend too much get mechanical, as good as electronic and easier and faster to install imo
