What other cars are comparable to the Evo IX's overall performance?
How about a Honda S2000? I had one before my Evo and loved it and I actually want to get another one to have as a summer fun car. Stock for stock they are dead-even on a hwy pull; it all comes down to the driver. With an intake and exhaust I was dead even with my friends lightly modded (intake + tune) IX MR and pulled away from a lightly modded VIII GSR (intake, exhaust, FMIC). After I regeared the rear differential to 4.57 I could pull away from the same IX with ease. More than anything though, the S2k is about the feel and experience rather than brute power. Definitely a great car to drive.

And i guess anything can happen on the streets, but honestly i've never heard of an s2k still in NA form pull away from a evo.
i've seen s2k's trap as high as 101.
I've seen stock evo ix's trap as high as 106. Having a 100 mph trap in an stock evo means there is something wrong with the car.
I would have to disagree. I think the s2k is a great car, but the evo has the edge in performance. Why? Simply because the evo has the edge in power. Handling, honestly i'd say they are equal, although feeling-wise, i'd give the nod to the s2k.

But i don't think thats what you meant. I've witnessed 20 year old toyota's run LAPS around evo's at the road course. The toyotas were miticulously modded with almost unlimited budgets. When comparing cars, one should only compare STOCK vs STOCK or not at all. It's simply a matter of who has the deeper pockets to make their car better, when it comes to comparing modified cars.

impressive.. at what speeds? and would the results have been the same if the drivers were reversed?

Anyways, back on topic, the Evo and S2k are both amazing cars in their own respective ways so if you're looking for change both are definitely worthy of at least a test-drive.

I don't remember the exact MPH, but I do remember starting in 3rd gear in the thick of the S2k powerband which is 7000rpm; this was a definite advantage for the S2k. I do not know where that put the IX MR, but he drives the hell out of that car so I'm sure he was in the powerband as well. He is a good drive and shifts his Evo faster than I shift mine so I'm sure the results would have been roughly the same if the drivers were reversed (assuming he had time to acclimate to the S2k and me the MR 6-speed).
