o2 housing question

okay i did some searching on how to install my o2 housing, but theres a few different ways....

i have one write up but it seems very long (have to remove radiator, ect.) and then i found another where they take off the manifold, turbo and 02 hosing all at once

then while reading i seen that you can split the turbo where the hotside meets and pull out the hotside and 02 housing together, to me that seems like the easiest way, but my question is what do i have to watch for while doing this? can u just split it and everything comes off and goes together smooth? no oil or bearings or anything fall out? im asking because i never split a turbo, so im not sure what to expect.

if anyone has split the turbo and can give me some insight it would be greatly appreciated, or if anyone has a good way to install the 02 housing would help me a lot too. thanks

I just did this last weekend.

If you take out the radiator it is a lot easier. I did not take it out.

Remove the manifold, unbolt the downpipe, there is a bolt holding the o2 housing to the block and I had to cut the old heatshield off around the o2 sensor with tin snips. I just could not get the right angle to take the hotside and o2 out with the radiator in there.

I eventually got it, but what a pain in the ***.

When you take the hotside off of the turbo, all you have to do is use a flat-head screwdriver and pry it open. Once its disconnected, just the hotside will seperate from the turbo, nothing else. No oil nothing, very easy...well depending on your mechanics level. What I did was, unbolt the downpipe, let it hang. Remove bracket holding manifold to block. Remove licp. Remove manifold(kind of had to work at this for there is limited space to get the manifold off of the studs) Bend the heatshield to remove that pin the wastegate arm is on. Then remove hotside with o2 housing on it. Don't forget to disconnect the o2 sensor wire on valve cover.

thank you
thats all i wanted to know
my mechanics level is pretty high, i put my own clutch in, so i think i can handle this

There's only one thing you need to watch when you remove the manifold/hotside off the turbo - be careful not to clip the turbine fins with the hotside. There's little room to maneuver, so take your time and extra care.

P.s. you dont need to disconnect/remove the licp.

I have a 10.5 and o2 housing sitting around and I'm too lazy to do it. I've had it quoted like 575 dollars for installation and labor, so I guess I'm gonna have to do it myself.

On another note, i would recommend doing the radiator way unless you plan on installing a new hotside (which you already have the 10.5) so yeah, radiator.

I did my o2 housing if i could change anything i'd take the raditor out , just makes for more room. Its not bad tho , just take ur time and make sure u tq everything down and use lots of PB blaster and then anti seize when reinstalling everything. Honestly all my bolts came off very easy so if one gives u some trouble let it soak with my pb blaster and go back to it.

i gave up on it....
i couldnt get that last nut off the stud, its the one that you only have a few inches on room to work with because the o2 housing kinda goes over top of it. its hard to do a time consuming project on your daily drivier, if i had another car, it would get finished..... but i need my car for work purposes

ill pay someone to put it in when i go green, that way it really shouldnt be any extra labor charge

I did mine in 2 hours. PB blaster is your friend. Theres a bolt that connects the O2 housing to the block thats the only tricky thing. The hot side removal is the easiest fastest way to install an 02 housing.
