I think the car would be running sooooooo rich that unburnt fuel leaks through the valves and into the exhaust. When it gets hot enough, it will ignite and spark out the back with a bang since the blast is resonated through the exhaust. I think thats how it works. I also think it will only happen with a test pipe. Correct me if I'm wrong.

i think what your thinking about is when someone has the anti lag or stutter box tuned into their ecu.

I'm gonna take a wild guess and assume he's talking about cars that have anti-lag on them. Thats the only time I've seen cars backfire like that unless you have a horrible tune or are untuned with mods.

Here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-lag

They explain it a lot better than I can. Its very hard on your turbo, but it does make cool flames out the back.

I've seen Evos that are running test pipes and full turboback exhaust throw flames with a really rich tune. So I guess it is possible.

ok, so put away the ALS. So do all evos with full aftermarket exhaust system backfires? I've heard it does due to excessive fuel with turbo cars and stuff.. . Any1 know for sure? *(backfire while racing, not when the car is not moving)
thx for the help guys =)

Or if you are at WOT and let off right when you hit the rev limiter it will make a really loud bang.

I did that with my buddy behind me one day. I was playing with him and we were on a side street that just got rained on so it was nice and slick. I jumped on it and the tires broke loose so I ended up hitting the rev limiter and...BANG she backfired and scared the crap out of my buddy. He thought I blew up my car.

No, he isnt talking about the 2-step. I know what he is talking about. I used to have a 2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege with a 3 inch turboback exhaust without a cat and a intake. Simple mods. When i reved it up to about 4 grand when it was really warm and then snap the throttle it sounded like a gun shot everytime. I was sooo loud people would freak out. The car was on stock boost and never was flashed or tuned or anything.
