Is over 80 healthy?
True i havnt seen any with more then 100k.. but i think its cause their still new.. i mean i dont think anyones driving then cross country.. Ive seen GST,GSX's go well over 100k.. If you plan on modding it, its a better deal.. you'll save a few grand so just rebuild the engine later on!..
Most of you are missing something here.
Your mechanic friend is not totally wrong, a lot of mitsubishi cars before are not reliable as compare to TOYOTA, LEXUS.
But EVO is different. It was brought to US in 2003. Mitsubish engineers spend a lot of R&D in the development of Lancer Evolution. It's a refined WRC cars over the years, and it was built to take all the abuse in rally racing. The car itself has lots of strong parts to support its high hp engine, especially for a 4 cylinder. A lot of owner abuse the evos, result in premature wear and tear.
If the 80k evo is well maintained, it's not something you should worried about.

Well I just replaced my clutch at 46,000 and beat the **** on it..so I'd say his definately went to 90k if he was nice to it....(you know everyone doesnt launch their cars at every stop light)
And there is a member on here with an 03 modded who put 100,000 highway miles on his and this thread was awhile back so who knows what he got now!
If you get a good evo and take care of it there should be no problem going over 100k if the power level is reasonable. (up to 400hp) I have seen nearly stock evo's throw a rod cap under 20k miles and trash a motor and I've seen modded evo's with close to 100k on them still running great. It all depends on how good your tuner is, how well the factory put it together, and how you drive it and keep up with the maintenance. It all comes down to this......You can't buy another car for the same money that will do what this car will do when appropriately modded. It is reasonably reliable for the performance it offers.
I think there was a thread on here a while ago about an Evo on Ebay that had like 145K and was still going perfectly well. I know there are some members on here that have close to 100K too with no problems. I alway adhere to the "you take care of it and it will take care of you" phrase.
you will undoubtedly hear noises comming from the engine regardless, damned lifter tick. I took mine in and they didn't report abnormal noise at all. Matter of preference really, I don't see why an 80k evo shouldn't run as strong as a 20k one, unless its been modded, beat to **** having the rings almost shot, and put back to stock.
A lot of mechanics have their own views on a lot of things usually based on rumor or one bad experience.....
Don't let it sway your decision.
One mechanic will tell you Audi is the greatest car in the world and the mechanic down the street will tell you that Audi's are nothing but headache's.

I'm heading for 75K as of now. It's still as tight as the day I bought it. That's even after I had a pretty bad off track experience.
I also have the stock clutch no BS but am getting ready to replace it as it does slip a bit when it's doing a standing start launch. For everyday driving though I'm sure I could get another 25k and make it to 100k miles with no worries.
You never know how the persons or person who owned it before you took care of it though. I still believe that unless it is a total heap you shouldn't have any big problems with it with that mileage on it though. Good luck.
