A couple weeks ago I was up at a track and was only able to pull 12.6 second runs at 105-106mph with 1.7 second 60's (340whp on a mustang dyno, should be running around 11.8) So I asked dave at buschur and he said it may be knock in 4th gear or a boost/exhaust leak. I went back to the track today, and ran a crap run of 13.9. I got P***ed and left. As I pull out I realized something..my clutch is TOAST, revving past 2k and my rpm's jump straight to redline and i MIGHT be going 20mph by the end of first. I DO understand that this is my fault, from launching it too much at the strip. Earlier I had a problem with a death whine coming from somewhere near my exhaust. It was thought to be my transfer case until the car could be in neutral while stopped and it would still whine. It was also thought to be either a throw out bearing or syncro. But now that the clutch is toast the whine is gone.

1.Could the clutch be the culprit or is it something else? (The whine will occasionally go away and come back, so it may have just disappeared and will come back tomorrow...)

2. Next question.. I think I'm going to go with the Fidanza 3.2 Clutch Kit for a new clutch.. could someone put some input on it please, Also, will I need a new flywheel with my new clutch?(How much will all of this cost including installation?)

3.Next question.. I could not feel my clutch slipping the first time I was at the track although as I drove the car for the past month it has felt progressivly slower, was it my clutch slowly slipping that caused me to run such bad times the first time at the track even though I could pull of a 1.7 60, or could knock or a boost/exhaust leak be the problem??

4.One last thing, I was told that during my last run my car was spitting greyish blackish smoke out the exhaust..what does that mean??

My clutch is toast as well, I'm ordering the exedy twin hd and giving Ivey a call once i get paid. The rpms skip up then fall back down. Its not completly gone yet but will be soon.

Greyish black some= running rich

 

Are you sure that's all it means.. it's not like a blown head gasket or anything?
