First evo and some questions

Hi I am new to this form and relativly new to tunner cars including evos. But regardless of that I just bought one and have a few questions.

First off soon as I drove the evo home I noticed a very irritable burning smell, and now that I have drove it for awhile I notice that that smell happens when it is driven fast or when the engine is revved high. Does any one know if this smell is normal? I have tried washing my engine bay a few times but that did not fix it.

Then last night I noticed that when the turbo kicked in, the RPM's jumped up about a thousand then immediately dropped a thousand is that normal?

Why did you test drive it before and then ask these questions...I'm not trying to be rude but just wondering.

I notice mine doing the same thing too if I ride the gear longer than I should. It's grinding the clutch that's why you have that burning smell. It should be ok if you shift gears smoothly.

the spike in rpms at higher gears when you press the gas is the clutch going.

The burning smell is your clutch, because it needs to be replaced. Sorry to hear about your luck because if you're not doing it yourself it's going to be about 1500 at least (clutch, flywheel, labor).

Well i did test drive it, and i did not notice it till about 5 days after i bought it. So the clutch going out is the reason for it revving so high when i accelerate slightly then it dropping back down to normal after a second?

Also does any one have any recommendations on a good strong clutch that is not going to cost me a arm and a leg?

Oh and i am assuming that a clutch is not covered in the factory warranty correct?

ACT street clutch and resurface your stock flywheel. should run you about 900-1000. It's probably as least expensive as it's gonna get.

So far from my last post it has gotten very annoying... even getting out of first the rpms jump up at least 1k-2k and when its in 5th gear at low rpms and you give it a little gas it jumps up at least 4k then drops down to normal....

Can some one tell me exactly what parts i will need to replace the clutch, and if it is going to be worth it to swap it out for the OEM parts. thanks

i know this doesnt help. but i know this mechanic who has done many things for us in the past and seems to know alot. although idk how much he can do with an evo clutch. but i know he put a new tranny and clutch in our old lancer for $225. so i know he wouldnt charge much for a clutch job. im sure hes done tons before but im just a bit worried about this car. but if i dont go to him im gonna do it myself so im prob better off going to him

O and we know him really well thats why he does stuff so cheap

I don't think you'll need to replace it anytime soon but if you're doing a lot of launches and high rpm pulls from lights, you might need to replace that clutch soon. Mine's 38K miles now and it's still the stock clutch. I am thinking about taking it to the drag track this weekend just to test out after my tuned.

it's just a clutch kit from any brand and you either should replace the flywheel or have it resurfaced with resurfacing being the less expensive option and IMHO unless ur getting a heavy duty race only clutch resurfacing the flywheel will work just fine. And NO definitely do not even consider OEM. It's at least 1600 dollars for an inferior clutch.
