Vent next to ignition

WTF is the small vent in front of the key hole on ignition? I've noticed on other cars and never got an answer on what it is?

lol.. that "vent" came in the middle of the 05 production run.. My guess is that it is for a JDM part, since none of the us evo's came w/ automatic climate control.
I have a very early 05 w/o that vent, and a friend of mine got a mid-05 that has the vent... both of us have GSR's, but mine w/ SSL.

Yeah, when I lived in Japan my civic SiR had it too and when I had the dash off I still couldn't figure it out either. That car didn't have auto climate control either.

I don't think the ding is coming from the vent? Maybe its to cool your fingers down if you are taking you keys out real fast! lol

There is nothing behind it. I mounted the microphone for my alpine voice nav/handsfree setup there though and that works well and is nice and hidden.

^Why is it there then, when I was in Japan my Civic had it and it had a small tube mounted to it but didn't really see where it went.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I see you are in Columbia, I used to live out in Scumter, stationed at Shaw.
