Hello from Koyorad!

What's up everybody!
My name is Kei Inoue.
I am in charge of new product research & development at Koyo Cooling Systems Inc.
On behalf of our company I'd like to thank the LanEvo community for your continued support and loyalty for our brand.

I'd like to maintain a presence on this forum just to get input from LanEvo owners
and also to answer any questions you may have about our products.

The only turn-off for the Koyo all-aluminum radiator for the Evo is probably the clearance issues with how thick our core is.
I know other manufacturers offer something thinner than ours.
But check their core thickness. It is the same as the factory radiator!
Is it really an upgrade to get a radiator with the same dimensions as stock?
We can offer you guys a thinner V-core alternative if there is a demand.

Another issue I found is the placement of the hose inlet on the top tank of the radiator.
There are clearance issues with the hose when using tube headers.
I have proposed to have a version of the radiator with the hose inlet moved to the left a few inches so that it is directly in front of the thermostat.
Would you guys rather have this setup?

These are the only two problems I've heard about with our Evo radiators.
If you guys have any additional comments, suggestions, questions or info
then please feel free to discuss it here!
I'll try to help you guys out as much as I can!

Thanks~!

We would be very interested as most time we have to chop the inlet or outlet off and reweld it to make it work or use steel braid line and welded on fitting.. also, a thinner core would be nice for clearance issues.. let us know what you can come up with.. Thanks!!

I figured you guys had issues with the hose clearance!
The reason why they retained the location was that the engineers in Japan wanted to retain a 100% OEM bolt-on fit.
If we do move the inlet to the left then people would have to get rid of the stock airbox.
So we might end up offering both versions.

The current all-aluminum radiator for Evo 7-9 has an R-core which is a 53mm 2-row core.
Our V-core is a 36mm 2-row core and is the same thickness as the factory radiator.
Please note that the V-core has about 20% less cooling capacity than the R-core!
For lightly tuned street cars it shouldn't be an issue.
If you have a mild to heavily modified car then you should definitely stick with the R-core.

Are you guys open to a 3-row copper core racing radiator?
Its thickness will be in between the factory and our R-core radiator.
Cooling capacity will only be 10% less and thickness is 4-12mm thinner than the R-core.

So is everybody else completely satisfied with the Koyo all-aluminum radiators?

There's a need for a a slim radiator with stock or better cooling and adjusted inlet for the tubular header guys. You can assume that if they are using a tubular header than the stock airbox is gone.

my suggestion is if you want better custom engagement try creating a survey for Koyo radiators targeting your audience in this case evo drivers... i know that evo owners who use koyo radiators are a small subset but this would still be beneficial for your cause, btw no compliants from my koyo radiator

First off i love koyo products i had the radiators in my other cars civic's and 240sx's...
i have not purchase one for my evo yet (because of the hose placement issues ) i dont mind how thick it is just the hose .. if you could make one that would be a strait shot into the thermostat (like CBRD).. my payment info is on the way ..

to the OP...
you are absolutely correct..

for evo's...the problems I had with the Koyo were

-fitment issues...too thick and some turbo kits would sit wayyyy too close to the radiator.
-upper water hose...some turbo kits have their header very close to this and I had to wrap it etc over and over since the heat was burning it up.

so you've got it right...
those are the two problems

No disrespect, but I'll stick with Chad at CBRD.

+1 -> oem radiator is calsonic..

I love my Koyo radiator.
Just got it a few months ago.
Since I have the Green Turbo and ported/coated oem manifold i don't need the hose position to the left side more.

But all the guys running bigger turbo's and tube manifolds really need something like this.
Thanks, Kei @ KOYO

The CBRD Rad. is really sweet, but it's nice to have options..
