Instead, it has different seats and a different engine...
But engine is very nice and I really like all this torque down low.

I don't think the STi sales are even what the Evo sales are right now.
EDIT:
I think I'll shut up here about STi cause it's definately a wrong forum.

And for it being a Spec C, I thought the Spec C had a totally different front subframe than the normal STi's?

Evo complaints
- Interior plastic easily scratched (damn passengers) I don't really mind the "cheap looking" interior, but I do mind seeing a bunch of scratches under the dash. This is sub-par even on a $14K lancer.
- Speedo and tach are hard to read in certain lighting conditions. More normal white-on-black would haven't cost any more.
- Cockpit air intake right behind hood vent! (Harder to fix, though)
- Flimsy sun-visors
- No factory cruise control option
On the whole, though, I am happy with most of the tradeoffs that Mitsu made with this car (spent the money on drivetrain, suspension, brakes, and seats instead of heated leather cup holders and voice-activated gas-cap latches) It definitely has a lot of the same spirit as my old 1st gen M3 (no-frills homologation special, not like those new cushy ones), and as an added bonus you can carry 4 adults in comfort, even if they do tend to scuff up your interior and mess up your power-to-weight ratio!

1. Interior plastic real cheap, scratches really easy.
2. Paint real thin, especailly the front fenders.
3. Overall build quality pretty low for a 30k car.
4. No cruise, can be easily added though.
5. Clutch sucks, they really dropped the ball on this one.
With all listed above, worth every penny. Can't buy a car for 30k that you can smoke just about every car on the road and have three witnesses on board. On the other hand I wish that the interior is as nice as the STI.
Cheers,
Winston

Well bear in mind my comments come from having just gotten out of a WRX (which I had modified to between 350HP-400HP).
1. ICE looks and sounds like it came out of a $10k car.
2. Small gas tank not practical in the western states.
3. Tires are only impressive if you haven't experimented with much else. Truly they are marginal for a car like this when you push it to the edge and beyond.
That's all. The interior is infinitely better in both design and fit-finish than that fitted to the WRX/STi. The seats and shift action are also superior. I'm also glad we have framed doors, as I got sick of the glass-in-door rattle that is present on the WRX and also the STi. The paint quality is comparable to the Subaru. What do you expect on a vehicle like this where weight and cost are primary considerations..
The EVO is in a different class than the WRX. Even though it has less power than my former ride, I'm very happy.

I am absolutley flabbergasted at this comment and look forward to reading your reasons for it - what tires make the stock tires so poor?

I have owned a wrx in the past and the tranny felt more solid to me. I feel like I have to baby this tranny in comparison to my wrx.

umm? no idea what you mean on the warranty. You should be happier its not lower then it is for being the car it is.
The reason the WRX tranny feels more solid then the Evo lancer is the design.
WRX tranny is setup like ina rwd car. you have a complete metal connect from shifter to tranny. hell the tranny sits under the shifter.
The Evo tranny like ANY fwd car is going to feel more sloppy because of the flexible cables used, since the tranny sit infront of you in the engine.
But to be honest.
you guys should be lucky mitsu brought over the evo lancer..
also I dont think we have a right to complain. this car has been around isnce the 1990s. Its changes have been influcences based on rally and JDM market.
Its not a luxury sedan, never well be, if that what you want buy a ford taurus and get in the right lane.
My biggest complaint is that we had to wait until 2003 to get an Evo in the US from the dealership. People LOVED the DSM's, the GVR-4's, and the 3KGT VR-4's. I was so pissed at first when Mitsu brought over the US Lancer first without the Evo. I originally hated the US Lancer, especially the "OZ Rally" when I knew there was no way in hell that was a rally car. But then they released the Evo in the US. Since then, I have really started liking the US Lancers, too. It's kinda strange, but the non-Evo Lancers have really grown on me. Oh, and I met this cute chick over in Richmond, VA who drives a yellow OZ. If I hadn't been driving the Evo, we would have never met.
I just wish we could have got this car sooner, but oh well. We have it now and you will have to pry my car keys from my cold dead hands.
