There is a way to drain the tank, two 10mm bolts on the bottom of the saddle tank

Obscure reference: The Seinfeld episode where Kramer takes a test drive and has to see how far he can get the needle to go past E before running out of gas, AKA the candy lineup episode.

I just bought my evo a couple weeks ago and the first time I filled it up was when the gas light came on. Anyways I thought something was wrong cause I filled it with only 11.2 gallons.

On my 2nd tank the light came on, I drove around a bit more, then it went off. This time it filled up with 11.5 gallons, I was so confused. Not anymore though.

Good information to know.

i know also that its bad for you pump to start the car on an empty tank as low as that.......

What you should've done is reset the odometer when the light first comes on and then see how far you can go :P.

A couple of reasons this is bad...Water and dirt are heavier than fuel, thats where all the junk is. I never go below 1/4 unless I miss it due to my column pod which almost got me once on the Autobahn Illegal to run out of gas!

I have plans for a SS 1/4in drain valve in the near future

<--Looking into this, if their are 10mm bolts then all you have to do is reduce it and put a SS 1/4in ball valve in and your in business I am an Aviation Fuels Specialist and water is a big concern with us. We draw off water all the time from condensation and it builds up pretty quick. I would like to be able to do this on the Evo just to be sure it's free of water hence the drain valve especially after sitting for a couple days.
