it must have been painful driving under the speed limit to see how far you could go

Once you get this low you can fill up with 14.2 gallons or so, neat trick for a 14 gallon tank.

If you think thats bad then I don't know what you'll make of my friend mike. I have never been in his car when the low level light was not on. And this doesn't mean he drivers slow whenever the light is on, he drives full throttle pretty much all the time and has never killed a fuel pump. I think that whole dirt and water and the bottom of the tank thing is a bit of a myth.
Looking at the way the pump is constructed and how it works, I don't see what difference there is as to whether the tank is full or nearly empty. The pump is cooled by fuel passing through it and the work it has to do is about the same either way.

Also, since people are prone to running out of gas, I can't imagine the builders using a pump that fries every time the tank goes empty.

I read that there is gunk that accumulates at the bottom of the fuel tank over time and that it's best never to let your car run that low on gas and suck that stuff up.

I've acually completly ran out of gas before. I was about 3 houses away from my own house. The road goes slightly uphill so I couldn't push it home

I think I may have already posted in this thread, but I get between 210-230 miles per tank. Aren't the 04+ tanks bigger then the 03's?

the light comes on at about 3.5 gallons left in the tank.
so, if you are getting 20+ miles to the gallon, do the math.

I've been told its really bad for the fuel system/pump to get that low. But maybe thats only if you do it all the time between fill ups.
