Turbotimer,Dealer, and a warranty

Hey guys.....I recently was looking at EVOs. The first dealer i went to all had Greddy Turbo timers on their EVOs. The dealer I bought mine at didnt. The first dealer says no they dont void no warranty..My dealer says yes it does, their rep has told them.. Which is right? Does a turbo timer installed by a dealer void the warranty ??

I don't see a reason for it. Why would you void the warranty on something that is designed to prevent coking of the turbo? The timers extend the life of the turbo. And if the dealer installed them and you have some sort of documentation (that they installed it and they say it will not affect your warranty) then you are in the clear regardless. The dealer that has the Greddy's are being smart though if you ask me. Taking preventative measures.

yeah, but my question is...how can a dealer sell a TT from the dealer, if it will void the warranty when you drive it off the lot??

I think I'd get arrested if the dealer tried to tell me that a turbo timer voided my warranty The sole purpose of a turbo timer is to prolong the life of your car, how that voids the warranty is beyond me. I'd call headquarters if they gave you any problems about a timer. I'm taking my car in tomorrow for routine maintenance, I'll make sure I bring it up. I might need you to bail me out though

Regardless of what ANY dealer tells you read the warranty book that comes from with your car. Right or wrong I think you'll find the TT does void the warranty. The dealer that installs it may stand behind their claim depending on what breaks on your car...but in either case I'd want it in writing.

They gotta prove the TT broke the car somehow, before denying your warranty.

Honestly, I'm not seeing where it says anything about a device like turbo timer resulting in the warranty being voided, but I have seen dealerships try shadier things and that's why I'll ask them.

Put it in your self then, if you have a problem take it out and bring the car in for service. Don't even bother telling them you had one.

I went in and got my car serviced today so I asked if the turbo timer and the boost guage would cause any problems with my warranty. The Tech working on my car said that it's not a "perfomance enhancer" that would cause considerable stress on the drivetrain so just as long as nothing was damaged "during" the installation (wires, panels etc...) they don't have a problem with it. The service manager told me that I can change the exhaust and it's not going to affect the emmisions warranty just as long as I do it from the "cat back". If I do decide to change out the entire exhaust then they just won't cover any exhaust issues I might run into. More importantly it won't void the powertrain warranty which is where things would get expensive to repair/replace and that seems to be their main concern.

Just as a heads up to everyone, the lead tech (only 2 trained Evo techs at my dealership) told me that they did recieve a message about the clutch going bad and covering it under the warranty. He said that the message "stressed vigoruosly inspecting it for abuse due to racing". How they could tell the difference between a faulty clutch and an abused clutch is beyond me. If this is found to be the case in their opinion then it will not be covered, which is no big surpise. I just found it interesting that has identified the problem but they are still trying to find a way not to have to pay.

This is just MY dealership though and from what I've read in the past it seems like things are different from one dealership to another. I have a good relationship with the service department here and my Evo is the first they've ever worked on so they know me. How much any of this holds up if anything actually ever goes wrong we'll only be able to tell in the future. Hopefully for my sake I never need them.

After my buddy and I installed my TT my rear taillights went out on my Evo. I took it into Mitsu to look at. They didn't give me any trouble about having installed the TT. They fixed it under warranty.

I think that this is the deal with most dealerships too, they have very little knowledge about these cars. They've all seen 2Fast 2Furious and think that everything is like Nos.
