Paint issues... AGAIN

I just recently got some touch up paint and fixed a few rock chips on my car with this absolutely SH*TTY paint. I just noticed between where the bumper and quarter panel meet it looked like there was a bit of left over wax there... well, I used my shirt and my thumb nail and gently tried to get in there and wipe it off... what came off? Rally red paint, there isn't even clear coat between the 2 panels!... this is absolutely ridiculous to make a 30,000 car and have this sort of paint job on it. I'm just wondering if anyone has gone back to the dealer and complained and actually gotten more than a sorry out of them? I'm seriously considering selling this car, no matter how much fun it may be. It's an 06 with 1800 miles on it, there is no reason for this. How dissapointed I am in mitsubishi's quality now.

yes sir... brand new.

I just got off the phone with the local mitsu dealer who was at least helpful and wants to get mitsubishi involved. He said it sounded like there was an insufficent amount of clearcoat on the car. There is another guy who deals with mitsu about these sort of things so I have to call back on monday. Anyone know if the X's are just as bad or not?

Some automakers (especially Japanese ones) use a tinted clearcoat on bright Red colored cars to add depth to the color.

I have a Red Honda S2000 that has this. The base coat is Red. And then the "clearcoat" is actually tinted red. So the final paint coat from the factory is a translucent red coat. If I wax my S2000 I end up with red rubbed off on the polishing pad and rags because of the tint in the clearcoat.

It's probably nothing for you to worry about. I would suspect that Mitsu uses a similar paint process.

There you go! Good answer . I have a Apex silver and I have no complaint. I have a SE with the 'Zero lift Kit' and it has some dots caused by pebbles. I wipe clean it and keep it in the garage and Wax it a couple of times since I purchased it new. I keep my other car the same.

your silver evo has mettalic in it, so it has a clear coat...... the yellow, blue and red evos are the ones suffering (not the evo 9 blue, its mettalic also)

Yeah I see what you are saying, but the issue is more the chips that are ALL over the car. I mean in places where you would never think you would get a rock chip, I expect the front to have them... either way, mitsubishi will either do something about this, or I will sell it, go into debt and buy a GT-R, so either way.. I win :-)

Best bet is after you resolve the issue with Mitsubishi (who will unfortunately deny any claim) is to get the car repainted and then put a clear bra on after the paint cures.

I had a clear bra installed on my Evo after 2,800 miles (which was about 2 years ago) and the front of my car is still mint.

I'm not getting it painted unless they are paying for it... otherwise i'll just sell the car. It is completely and totally stupid for them to make a 30,000 dollar car and then have this horrible paint on it.

yeah i'm sure I will... however they won't be all over the place like on the edges of the doors. I just love posters like you who try to say something smart since they have nothing else to do... go post in another forum if you aren't going to add anything intelligent to this one.

+1. Your going to get chips. Its a 30,000 dollar car for a lot of other reasons, not the paint.

You are missing the point... which is that with a car that has 1900 miles on it... it has them all over the place.. not just on the front. Japanese car makers pride themselves on their quality... my mothers trailblazer has better paint on it... our 99dodge dakota doesn't have rock chips all over it... look around on the site... a lot of people complain about the paint on these cars.. look at the evo X forums for God's sake.. they even have a sticky about the paint.

For some reason I thought your evo had 30k miles on it. with only not even 2k, that is pretty pathetic.
