Insane Gas $$ - But Better Mileage!!!
Just thought I'd share my gas fill-up / better mileage experiences from the last 4 months of driving.
First....short list of mods on the car and driving habits....
cobb tbe w/test pipe
okada projects coils
works filter
AccessPort custom tune
nisei intercooler pipes
Driving habits...in AZ hot A#$ weather...run AC and drive the car at posted limits or a little above....I don't jet take off from any lights and I may push the car hard once a week (during summer 100+ degrees)....about 95% of my driving is city.
Some tips for filling up gas I got in an email that I started using:
1. Fillup only in the AM hours...before 10am
2. Only fillup on the slowest speed setting...
3. always fillup at half a tank
4. never fillup when a gas tanker is pumping gas into the ground
There are reasons why for each point I can get to later but here has been my experience the last four months
I have been averaging 200-203 miles per half a tank of gas...so I always fill up 7 gallons....my average mpg has been between 28.1-28.8 or so each fillup.
Not too shabby
For anyone who didn't know these fillup tips they definitely work....prior to following these tips I never did any of them and I was usually only seeing about 19-20 mpg avg.

dude you drive a evo
Any savings you are seeing is because you are now tracking it and worrying about it meaning that you most likely changed your driving habit at the same time you started following the "tips" from the email. By changing driving habits (not accelerating hard, anticipating stops in advance so you don't have to come to a complete stop, driving speed limits instead of doing 85 on the freeway, etc.) you are doing FAR more to improve MPG then anything you can do while filling up the tank. I'm glad you are having fun getting the most our of your EVO. Next time just get a civic if you are worried about paying too much at the pump.
i think if you are stupid enough to try these tips to get like 8 more miles to the gallon, maybe you shouldnt have an evo. go buy a prius or something. if gas is hurting you for this car sell it.

What I'm trying to say is that I maybe push my car once or twice a week...so yes some might say I'm not driving the car the "way it is supposed to be driven"....I just drive it basically the same way I drive my wife's honda civic....except for the occasional 'face melt'!
FYI....I've tracked my gas mileage in my car from day one...not just when I started using these tips

I only posted this stuff because I saw that it works....and thought others might want to take advantage.....kind of like if I saw you in "Need" on the side of the road I'd pull over to help you out
I'm surprised this hasn't been merged with all the other ****ty gas threads. Has it not met some quota of suckiness yet?
I'm boycotting Shell on Tuesday to drive prices down to $1.78/gallon.

You guys want performance but want great gas mileage. These two do not go hand in hand. It's one or the other.
Never let your gas tank get below 1/4 tank. The gasoline in your tank is what keeps your fuel pump cool. Keeping your fuel pump cool prevents it from taking a crap on you. Unless you like buying fuel pumps.
I like the fact that Citgo gas is from South America where the Dictator hates America. The Navy Exchange gets their gas from Citgo. Our own Government supporting a Dictator that despises us, oh the irony.
Here is my input:
#1 IMO is false. these "fumes" you speak of are not a drastic as you make it sound. One reason that the tank is [U][B]underground[U][B] is so thaat temperature doesnt affect it. Second, the pump that sucks gas out of the resivor tank and into your gas pump DOES have a filter on it, as well as is located at the bottom of the tank. No gas fumes will be sucked in, just liquid.
#2 makes no difference. I dont remember what department it is of the state/gov, but they have people who have the single job of going to random gas stations and making sure that a gallon of gas being pumped out of the machine is actually a gallon of gas. There are tamper switches on the pumps as well, so no matter what the speed you pump, you get what you pay for... How would a company stay in business giving someone a half gallon when they say they are gettin a full gallon??? Dont you think that someone alredy though about that and tried it WAYYYY back in the day... so, speed doesnt matter.
#3 concerns weight. They is no way possible that when you have added weight to your car, that you will get better gas mileage... Its physics. The more weight that is in potential energy, the more power it takes to change it into kenetic... I always fill my tank to half, maybe 3/4 the way, and drive til right before the gas light comes on. And for those people who are like, what if... well if you are goign somewhere, just put extra gas in your tank so you dont run into problems.
#4 could possible be true. i know there are filters in the tank, so the sediment formed will be stirred up, but most likely will not affect anything. They also have fuel injector/system cleaners if people are worried about clogging their pump/injectors. Just bring it to a high RPM and they will clear out.
I think they did this on mythbusters or some similar show. I believe it was because there was this world wide email goign around. Whatever the show, those are the answers they gave for those statements of getting better gas mileage. Maybe this will help some, maybe some will reject what im saying. It is all just our opinoins, so please dont get offended. Thanks!

Without getting much into an argument I can only say that my gas mileage on both Evos here in Tucson were just miserable. It did not matter if it was city, combined or HWY, the gas mileage was simply poor.
A typical refill will consist on mid 12 galons and reseting the trip odometer every 210-220ish in city.
I do recal a few long distance trips to Phoenix and driving around Phoenix, also a trip to Las vegas and and finally a trip to San Diego and making just a hair over 300 miles in HWY.
Each car is different so I can't say you aren't getting what you are getting but filling up the upper half of the fuel gauge I can tell you that it last more than the lower half of the fuel gauge. The fuel gauges are not accurate at all, very often you can drive smaller cars and you can do up to 70-100miles before the fuel gauge barely start dropping from the top.
Getting high 28 mpg in Tucson at this altitude and temperature I always thought impossible. Just remember, the manufacturer rates the Evos like 18mpg city, and you managed to improve that by 60% under adverse conditions(altitude , heat)? you are the man!I guess...
So basically, you are getting better gas mileage than a 105 hp Honda Fit, better than a 140hp honda civic,118hp mini and off course another 3000 cars in the market....

This dude just posted the results of his experience using these tips...whether it's met your "quota" of suckiness is irrelevant... Nobody cares! If you think all these gas threads are ****ty, DONT READ THEM! And as if it already didn't go without saying, for god sakes dont post on them.
