but evaporating water is cold. Why doesn't a sprayer thing help?

Evaporating water is, at the coolest, the same temp as ambient. Evaporating water draws heat out of something warmer than ambient though. The IC sprayer is great in theory, but real-world just didn't do much (STI's had or maybe still have them too and being a TMIC they made a bit more sense). The sprayer will be of no use with a properly sized intercooler core that gets enough airflow.

I have an nx express ntercooler system that sprays nitrous on to the front mount. Might be just me since i dont really boost on hot days anyways, but i have never noticed a power gain by it at all, or necessarily a significant drop in air temps either. But when staged or at a light, sounds really really cool lol.

I have IC spray on my 9 (JDM), and I also heard that the reason it made it into the production Evo was so it could also be featured on the WRC evo, so the big question is: if it was put into the WRC car, it must do something good right?
I don't know if it does something to my car or not, but everytime someone asks what the button is for, they are AMAZED with the answer it's just cool to have.

thats completely wrong
WRC cars dont depend on the production cars

they do almost nothing but add weight to your car
if they did something good dont you think all these full drag evos and time attack evos would run it?

i have never used mine on the street, and whenever i sprayed it when i first got the car (thought it was a neat feature) i felt nothing. Like everyone else said, a properly sized IC or meth is wayyyy better and more efficient.

for what it is worth, when I autoX the evo, I spray the IC sprayer if its an esp hot day just to cool it down (after a run). I see everyone spraying the IC with water, but i dont need to since i have the stock sprayer. Never tested it or noticed a diff, but on a hot day i would imagine it would help with heat soak. you can tell the difference simply by touching the IC. just my exp.

Have you seen the NACA duct on the evo 7's hood? It does nothing on the production car, but in the WRC car it takes air in and sends it to the airbox. If they had it on the WRC car, it was required by FIA rules to have it on the production car, even if it did nothing. Rules changed later on so the WRC cars were no longer dependant on production cars, just like you said.
Ed
To keep it on topic, OP, the US evo 9 does not have a IC sprayer, JDM evo 9 does
